Starc sets new record batting at no.9 in ICC knockout game

Starc now also has the most runs by a batter in an ICC knockout game while batting at number nine or below, and the first to score a half-century. This record previously belonged to South Africa’s Rory Kleinvedt, who made a knock of 43 against England in the 2013 Champions Trophy SF.

Starc became the second batter to score 50 batting at no.8

Starc also became only the second batter after India’s Shardul Thakur to score a half-century while batting at number 8 or lower in a World Test Championship final. Thakur had accomplished this in the previous WTC final in 2023 against Australia.

Starc-Hazelwood set a new record

Starc put a 59-run partnership for the 10th wicket with Josh Hazlewood, who was eventually dismissed by Aiden Markram. With this stand, the duo set a new record for Australia’s highest 10th-wicket partnership in an ICC final, surpassing the previous mark of 41 runs set by Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson in the 1975 World Cup final against the West Indies.
