Rodney Marsh: From fat to fit

Fat to fit - From nicknamed as 'Iron Gloves', Rodney Marsh, went on to be one of the finest wicketkeepers.

Picture on the left is how Rodney Marsh looked when he broke into the Australian team in November 1970 — an overweight 23-year-old.  His ‘keeping was not impressive either and he was quickly nicknamed ‘Iron Gloves”.

But Marsh not only went on to become on the finest wicketkeepers in the game but also brought about a drastic change to his personality, sporting a moustache and looking relatively slimmer.

Photo on the right shows Marsh, now Cricket Australia Chairman of Selectors, talking with Mitchell Marsh in the nets area during an Australian training session at the WACA on November 13, 2014 in Perth.
