A top knock by him but he will be disappointed to miss a century here. The deficit is still 5 runs.

R Khan to McCollum, OUT! Plumb in front! One brings two and both the stars of the morning session are back in the hut in quick time. Rashid Khan dishes out a flatter delivery in the line of the stumps and gets it to skid off the surface. McCollum is caught on the back foot trying to hit across the line. Misses the ball completely and is thudded flush on the back leg. They appeal and the umpire agrees immediately. You cannot be more plumb than this. A fighting knock by the debutant is over too and Ireland are still to get into the lead.

R Khan to O'Brien, OUT! Ireland's last hope departs! Rashid has caught O'Brien plumb in front here and he has set off on a run! This wicket is a massive one! A flatter one on middle and going straight on again instead of turning. KOB is caught on the back foot and he misses the ball. It goes on to hit the pads in front of the leg stump. The appeal comes and so does the finger. The ball might have just been clipping leg stump according to the replays. That doesn't matter now though, both the experienced men have been removed and Afghanistan are sensing a win here. That is also Rashid's 4th wicket in this innings!

W Salamkheil to S Poynter, OUT! What a stunning catch at first slip! Afghanistan have turned things around post the Lunch break. Salamkheil serves a shortish ball just outside off, too close to cut but Poynter still goes for it from the crease. He gets a fat outside edge which travels at a rate of knots to first slip where Ihsanullah reacts quickly to grab a superb reflex catch. So after a century stand, it is going from bad to worse for the Irishmen.

They would have been frustrated surely though, Murtagh tries to pull this short ball and hit it for a six but the ball gets too high on him. Rahmat Shah from deep mid-wicket comes running in, settles under the ball and takes a good catch to end the vital 58-run stand for the final wicket. Ireland end on 288, their second highest total in Tests, with a lead of 146.

A McBrine to Shahzad, OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Afghanistan have lost their first wicket. All the hard work of playing the day out has been stopped. McBrine bowls this ball on leg and gives it some air, Shahzad leans forward to flick it but ends up giving a faint edge down the leg side and straight to the keeper who takes a good catch behind the stumps. Ireland have got a breakthrough and will feel confident if they end the day with another one.

Cameron Dow to Shah, OUT! Stumped! What an anti-climax! Rahmat missed out on a century in the first innings and now he has missed out on scoring the winning runs. Cameron Dow sees the batsman charging down the wicket to smash this ball and bowls it short. Rahmat is foxed by the turn and the lack of flight. Shah is stranded in the middle of nowhere and gets stumped by the keeper who makes no mistake.

Cameron Dow to Nabi, OUT! Run out! Afghanistan are committing foolish mistakes here. A fuller one on middle, Nabi paddles it fine on the leg side and the ball runs towards fine leg. The fielder reaches it quickly and throws it at the keeper's end. The keeper removes the stump and Nabi who was coming for the second run seems to be struggling. The leg umpire takes it upstairs and the replays show Nabi is short. Maybe the excitement of the victory is causing all this.
