Jason Royc Akila Dananjaya b Lasith Malinga 0 4 0 0 0
0.4
L Malinga to J Roy, OUT! Malinga strikes! Sri Lanka draw first blood in the first over. Ideal start after winning the toss and electing to field. The dangerous Roy departs without troubling the scorers. The Lankans are pumped up. Malinga bowls it on a length and the line is a touch straighter. The ball sticks in the surface and stops a bit onto the batsman. Roy is early into the flick and hence he spoons it towards Akila Dananjaya at mid-wicket who takes a very easy catch moving across to his left. Roy stands there in disbelief, looks at his bat and then the wicket before walking off. This is Roy's 7th duck in ODIs, first against Sri Lanka and third this year.
Jonny Bairstowb Thisara Perera 26 40 3 0 65
13.6
T Perera to J Bairstow, OUT! BOWLED 'EM! What a delivery! He was creating pressure and now gets his reward. Full and on off, the ball just swings away after pitching. Bairstow goes hard at it, but is beaten by the swing. The ball goes past the outside edge and hits the off pole. Big wicket for the hosts as they break a crucial partnership.
Joe Rootc Akila Dananjaya b Dhananjaya de Silva 71 83 6 0 85.54
28.6
de Silva to Joe Root, OUT! In the air... taken! The leading edge carries this time! The bowling change has worked wonders for Sri Lanka. They have got the well-set Root. He departs after another start. Redemption for de Silva as he had dropped him but now gets his wicket. Once again it is the slider from around the wicket. Root tries to clip it away against the angle. The ball takes the leading edge and balloons towards the fielder at covers, Dananjaya there takes his second catch. Another promising stand comes to an end. Can Sri Lanka capitalize now? Also, Root is seen complaining about something to the fourth umpire on his way out, not sure about what but he is not looking happy.
Eoin Morgan (C)c & b Lasith Malinga 92 91 11 2 101.1
41.4
L Malinga to E Morgan, OUT! Slower ball does the trick! Morgan departs in the nervous 90s. This is the 4th time he has been dismissed in the 90s in ODIs. Excellent delivery! Vintage Malinga there. He rolls his fingers over the seam and lands it on the perfect length. Just behind the driving length. Morgan is sucked into the drive but does not pick the slower one. He checks his shot but ends up chipping it back to the bowler who holds on to it. Another timely wicket for Lanka and that too a big one. This can easily make a difference of at least 15 runs to the final total.
Ben Stokesc Dhananjaya de Silva b Akila Dananjaya 15 22 1 0 68.18
36.5
A Dananjaya to Ben Stokes, OUT! After four short balls Akila gets his man. Was that a set-up then? Stokes fails to pick up the googly and gets caught. Tossed up ball outside off, it spins away from Ben who looks to go over the on side. Gets a leading edge which flies to backward point where Dhananjaya returns the favor to Dananjaya. Sri Lanka once again manage to pick a timely wicket.
Jos Buttler (W)b Nuwan Pradeep 28 25 2 0 112
45.3
N Pradeep to Jos Buttler, OUT! Bowled 'em! England's finisher is just finished! Full toss on middle, Buttler swings but fails to put bat on ball. Looks back to see the middle pole fallen. Big wicket this as Buttler is one of the best at this stage. The umpires had made Jos wait to check for a no-ball but it is deemed legal. Not only the front foot but Pradeep's back foot was also checked. Was nearly cutting the side crease. All okay though and Jos returns to the dressing room. England dented further.
Moeen Alib Lasith Malinga 0 1 0 0 0
41.5
L Malinga to M Ali, OUT! TIMBER! Two-in-two for Malinga. 500th international wicket for him. He is surely turning back the clock. Another top, top nut. The slower yorker on middle, Moeen Ali is completely foxed as he tries to flick. He is way too early into the shot. The ball sneaks under his bat and hits the timber behind. Ali walks back for a golden duck and now 300 is suddenly looking too far. Hat-trick ball coming up...
Chris Woakeslbw b Lasith Malinga 5 10 0 0 50
46.1
L Malinga to C Woakes, OUT! What a review from the hosts! And Malinga gets his fourth! Slow yorker on the legs of Woakes. He looks to work it to the on side but misses it completely to get hit on his leg. Sri Lanka appeal but the umpire shakes his head. The home side takes the review. Replay shows us three reds and Woakes is out of here. Surprising, Chris was signalling he had some willow on that one but Snicko showed there was no bat involved. Maybe he was just signaling so that the Lankan players do not take the review. Nevertheless, he has to depart and the visitors might just not play out their full quota of overs.
Liam Dawsonb Lasith Malinga 4 4 1 0 100
46.6
L Malinga to L Dawson, OUT! 5-fer for Lasith Malinga! His 8th in this format! And this is surely the vintage Malinga we are witnessing after a long time. Perfect slower ball on off, Liam looks to play it to the on side but the ball dips at the very end and goes under his bat and onto the off pole. Excellent stuff!

Niroshan Dickwella (W)c Jos Buttler b Olly Stone 9 9 2 0 100
3.1
O Stone to N Dickwella, OUT! In the air... taken! Olly Stone gets his first ODI wicket. A snorter to get it. A bumper and it's right on the helmet of Dickwella. He tries to fend it away but the ball takes the gloves and lobs behind to Buttler who takes a dolly. Stone is pumped up and both the openers are back in the hut for Sri Lanka. They are in trouble here.
Upul Tharangac Jos Buttler b Chris Woakes 0 1 0 0 0
0.6
C Woakes to U Tharanga, OUT! EDGED AND GONE! The last ball though ruins it for the hosts. Top nut to receive first up. Tharanga bags a golden duck and just like their opposition, Sri Lanka lose a wicket in the first over. Woakes lands it on a length around off, it pitches and then shapes away. Tharanga tries to defend but the ball kisses the outside edge and goes into the mitts of the keeper. Early strike for England and that ends an eventful opening over.
Dinesh Chandimal (C)b Chris Woakes 6 13 1 0 46.15
4.4
C Woakes to D Chandimal, OUT! DRAGS IT ON! No. 3 down and the batsman who would have probably anchored the innings is walking back. A back of a length delivery outside off, Chandimal tries to punch it through the off side by standing tall. But he gets an inside edge onto the stumps. Woakes gets his second and the target now looks an uphill task.
Kusal Pererac Jason Roy b Liam Dawson 30 37 4 0 81.08
15.6
L Dawson to K Perera, OUT! Poor delivery, deserved to be pulled, it's pulled but straight to the only fielder inside the ring on the leg side. A disappointed Kusal departs and Sri Lanka continue to slip badly in this run chase. Dawson is really lucky with this wicket. Perera fails to get his weight entirely on the back foot as he attempts to unfurl his pull shot. As a result, there is no elevation and Roy takes the simplest of catches at mid-wicket. England are roaring!
Dasun Shanakac Jos Buttler b Chris Woakes 8 15 1 0 53.33
8.5
C Woakes to D Shanaka, OUT! Another one bites the dust! Woakes is breathing fire out there as he gets his third. Once again it is the outswinger which does the trick. Back of a length around off, it shapes away. Shanaka tries to defend from the crease but does not account for the outward movement. The ball takes the outside edge and goes into the gloves of Buttler. He takes it and appeals and the umpire raises his finger. The move to promote Shanaka up the order does not work. England need another 6 wickets to go one up in the series.
