With that, they whitewash the Black Caps and clinch the series 3-0 and also grab the No. 1 TEST RANKING OFFICIALLY. India are all set to lock horns with New Zealand for the final Test clash at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Saturday. Yes, Indoris will be all set to witness cricket for the first time with load sof excitement in store, despite being dead-rubber. India are already leading this series by 2-0 and have gained the No. 1 spot as well. Their aim will for 3-0 and whitewash New Zealand at home. However, New Zealand will want to end this series with pride and make this clash rather exciting than boring. Both the teams had missed out on few players ahead of the series and during the series, so those might make a comeback for this final clash.

Gautam Gambhir will be grabbing the spotlight as Virat Kohli has given an assurance of him playing in the final Test. Of course, India did miss out on their opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan who will be missing this Test due to his thumb injury while Bhuvneshwar Kumar will also be unseen. Instead, Karun Nair and Shardul Thakur have been given a call up. Shardul had a decent outing against India A got some crucial wickets while Nair is yet to prove his mettle. LIVE CRICKET UPDATES: India vs New Zealand, 3rd Test at Holkar Stadium, Indore

Now that India are 2-0, the credit duly belong to their all-round performance right from the consistent Wriddhiman Saha to India’s ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Meanwhile, for the Kiwis, Kane Williamsom will be expected to comeback along with their best batsman Jimmy Neesham who was out of picture for the first-two Tests.

If India take this series by 3-0, it will not only be a whitewash but also they will seal the No. 1 spot to their name for a long time. Considering the rains and bad light have played spoilsport in the previous Tests, one can only hope the current pitch and Indore proves to be a blessing for both the teams.

It will be a historical day for a bustling city at the heart of the nation, as Indore will become one of the newest venues in Test cricket in late September. The Indian cricket team will take on New Zealand in the second of their three-Tests in September-October 2016, which will mark the beginning of a long and grilling home season for them. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named it the ‘India Cricket’ season 2016-17, which will see the national cricket team playing as many as 13 Tests, 5 ODIs and 3 T20Is.

India will face New Zealand for 3 Tests and 5 ODIs, following which there will be a five-Test series against England. India and England will also engage in a three-match T20I series, following which there will be a one-off Test against Bangladesh. The ‘India Cricket’ season will end in February-March 2017, with a four-Test affair against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2016-17.

The first Test of the India versus New Zealand series will be played at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur from September 22-26. The two teams will then head to Kolkata for the second Test, which will be played from September 30 to October 4. The third and final Test will be at Indore, from October 8-12, 2016.

Coming back to the final Test between India and New Zealand in Indore, it can be said that the city which has been hosting international cricket since 1983 had to wait for a very long time to get their chance to host Test cricket. This year, the BCCI has introduced as many as six new venues including Indore, the other five being Rajkot, Pune, Dharamsala, Ranchi and Visakhapatnam.

From 1983 to 2001, as many as 9 ODIs were played in the city, all at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. But after a long gap of five years when international cricket returned to the city, the modern Holkar Stadium made its debut in 2006. India have played 4 ODIs so far as this venue, and they have always emerged victorious.

Talking about the Holkar Stadium, the venue has hosted international cricket since 2006. The first-ever international match at this venue was between India and England, which the hosts won by 7 wickets. India have so far played four ODIs at this venue, and have won all of them. The last time India played at Indore was in October 2015, when they defeated South Africa by 22 runs in a memorable game.

Indore’s cricketing history is as rich as that of any other city, or maybe greater. India’s first Test captain, Col. CK Nayudu was from Indore. The city in the middle of the country is also the birthplace of former cricketers Syed Mushtaq Ali, Rahul Dravid, and Sandhya Agarwal, who was also the captain of India Women. Many personalities such as Raj Singh Dungarpur, Chandu Sarwate and Sanjay Jagdale are a part of the city’s cricketing history.
