Ravichandran Ashwin, Man of the Match and Man of the Series- Thanks the crowd for coming in large numbers. Felt like he was playing a Test in 90's. Mentions that he had to work harder in the first innings, needed to be patient on this wicket and the footmarks helped in the final innings. Adds that he wanted the Kiwi batsmen to drive more. India opted not to enforce the follow on and pressed home the advantage further by setting a mammoth target of 475. Pujara was the star as he scored an unbeaten century. It was always going to be a herculean task for New Zealand to save the match from there and they fell like a pack of cards in the final innings to the guile of Indian bowlers. Ashwin deserves a special mention as he took 13 wickets in the match and 27 in the series.
The visiting side came back to bat and the resilient opening pair stitched together a solid 118 run partnership. Once it was broken, the floodgates opened and Ashwin produced a thrilling display of spin bowling grabbing a 6-fer in the process. Guptill, Latham and Neesham batted well to score half centuries. The Kiwis conceded a big lead of 258 runs to the home side.
Earlier in the match, India posted a huge score of 557 on the board in the first innings riding on the skipper's masterclass double ton and Rahane's exceptional 188. The Kiwis tried hard but had no answer to the brilliance of the duo as they were instrumental in pushing the visiting side on back foot.
India have marched to victory and it has been a thoroughly superlative performance. With that, they whitewash the Black Caps and clinch the series 3-0 and also grab the No. 1 TEST RANKING OFFICIALLY. Ashwin once again came to haunt the Kiwi batsmen in their final innings and they had no answer to his magical spell of bowling as he grabbed 7 wickets and ran through their order in a jiffy. Jadeja chipped in with a couple of wickets and Shami with one when New Zealand were asked to chase down 475.
