Aiden Markramc Sarfraz Ahmed b Faheem Ashraf 90 124 16 0 72.58
34.4
F Ashraf to Markram, OUT! Markram is walking! What a disappointing end to a promising knock! Aiden is absolutely gutted with himself. He is strangled down the leg side. A delivery angling down, Markram tries to flick but gets a thin inside edge behind. Sarfraz flies to his left and takes an outstanding catch. They are appealing and Aiden Markram is seen walking. A good gesture. End of a wonderful knock, he deserved a century though. Pakistan needed this breakthrough desperately. The 126-run stand is over and the tourists would like to build on this.
Dean Elgar (C)c Sarfraz Ahmed b Mohammad Abbas 5 6 1 0 83.33
1.4
M Abbas to Elgar, OUT! There you go! Excellent delivery by Abbas and he has hunted down the stand-in skipper. Angles across a good length delivery outside off, Elgar has his feet glued to the crease as he hangs his bat out tentatively. It catches a thin outside edge and goes into the safe gloves of Sarfraz. Usually, Dean is a very patient batsman but his patience lasted only two balls, left the previous ones and edged the third. Early success for Pakistan and it's a big one too.
Hashim Amlac Asad Shafiq b Shadab Khan 41 98 6 0 41.84
42.4
S Khan to Amla, OUT! What a catch! Asad Shafiq shows brilliant reflexes at first slip. Hashim Amla will have to go. Another set batsman is dismissed. Shadab delivers a short one outside off, Amla rocks back to slap it square of the wicket on the off side but it takes a fat outside edge and hurries behind to Shafiq. He stretches to his right and snaps it quickly. Hashim misses out on a half century and this is a good passage of play for Pakistan.
Theunis de Bruynlbw b Mohammad Abbas 49 82 9 0 59.76
60.2
M Abbas to Bruyn, OUT! Plumb in front! Reverse swing happening and Abbas has struck. Theunis departs one short of his fifty, not the first batsman in this innings to miss out on a milestone. Great nut by Abbas. He bowls a length delivery with the shine on the inside. It's around middle and off as de Bruyn tries to work it on the leg side. But due to the late inward movement, he misses the ball completely to get rapped on the pads. They appeal vociferously and this time the finger has gone up. Quite plumb. Theunis walks back without even thinking of reviewing the decision. End of the 75-run stand!
Zubayr Hamzac Sarfraz Ahmed b Mohammad Amir 41 68 5 1 60.29
65.6
M Amir to Hamza, OUT! Amir gets another, he is on fire here. Let me repeat - Another batsman misses out on a milestone. This time it is the debutant who falls 9 short of a fifty. The indecision has cost him. Amir continuous to bowl it in the channel of uncertainty. Hamza first thinks of playing at it but then at the very end, tries to leave as it is angling away. It is though too late by then. The ball takes the bottom part of the bat and goes into the gloves of Sarfraz. South Africa have lost their way completely, from 229 for 3, they have slipped to 244 for 6. Pakistan into the lower order.
Temba Bavumac Sarfraz Ahmed b Mohammad Amir 8 9 2 0 88.89
61.6
M Amir to Bavuma, OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Amir gets his man. He probed and probed and probed and this time, has found the edge he was looking for. A well-deserved wicket for Amir and Bavuma's uncomfortable stay out in the middle has come to an end. Once again it is the late movement which causes the problem. Amir pitches it on a length around off, it shapes away. Bavuma this time plays inside the line. The ball kisses the outside edge and goes into the mitts of the keeper. Amir is ecstatic and Pakistan have got two quickly. They are right back into the contest.
Quinton de Kock (W)c Mohammad Abbas b Faheem Ashraf 18 38 2 0 47.37
75.2
F Ashraf to Kock, OUT! Quinton de Kock tries to cut loose but holes out! Cannot be faulted for attempting that shot but it's his bad luck that he finds the fielder with precision in the deep. A back of a length delivery around off, angling away, de Kock attempts to heave it over the mid-wicket fence but it takes the toe end of his bat and goes straight down the throat of Mohammad Abbas. He makes no mistake and South Africa's last recognized batsman is out of here. 6 wickets for 33 runs, talk about collapsing!
Vernon Philanderlbw b Hasan Ali 1 15 0 0 6.67
70.5
H Ali to Philander, OUT! Three reds and Philander has been given the marching orders. Did not see that coming but excellent use of the technology from Pakistan. They haven't been great with the DRS in recent times but this time they have got it spot on. Sarfraz will be a delighted man and the good period of play after the Tea break continues for Pakistan. Good passage after the ball has started to reverse, I must say. Hasan Ali is amongst the wickets now. It is full and on middle, tails back in. Philander plants his front foot across but then tries to adjust to the movement and flick. He misses and it hits him on the pad. An appeal follows but the umpire shakes his head. Sarfraz signals the 'T'. Replays show that the on-field call has to be overturned, we all thought it would be missing or at the most clipping the leg pole but it is hitting. Hmm... 300 now looks farfetched.
Kagiso Rabadac Sarfraz Ahmed b Hasan Ali 0 5 0 0 0
72.4
H Ali to Rabada, OUT! Another one bites the dust! Two in two overs for Hasan Ali. Another full delivery does the trick. This one also swings away from the left-hander. Rabada goes for a booming drive through the off side, the ball takes the outside edge and Sarfraz behind makes no mistake.
Dale Steynnot out 2 17 0 0 11.76
Duanne Olivierc Mohammad Abbas b Faheem Ashraf 0 8 0 0 0
77.4
F Ashraf to Olivier, OUT! South Africa are all out for 262! Excellent stuff from Pakistan post Tea. Faheem bangs one short on middle and leg, Olivier goes for the hook but gets a top edge to it. The ball flies towards Abbas at fine leg who gets low and takes a safe catch. 7 wickets for 33 runs, has to be one of the most stunning comebacks in the game.

Imam-ul-Haqc Dean Elgar b Vernon Philander 43 105 4 0 40.95
33.2
V Philander to Imam, OUT! Another good one taken in the slip cordon! Dean Elgar, the captain is the one with the catch. Length ball outside off, kicks off after hitting a crack maybe. Imam looking to defend from the crease has been done by the bounce and slight deviation as well. The ball goes off the shoulder of the bat. Flies at a good height towards second slip. Elgar dives to his left and holds on beautifully. Half the side back in the hut now!
Shan Masoodc Quinton de Kock b Vernon Philander 2 7 0 0 28.57
3.5
V Philander to Masood, OUT! Now we know what the noise was, it was of the ball hitting the outside edge. Philander draws first blood quite early. Shan, the in-form batsman, departs. Philander bowls it on a length on off, Masood tries to defend it off the front foot but the ball goes away with the angle, seems to have taken the outside edge on its way and is caught by the keeper. An appeal follows but the umpire shakes his head. Elgar, after a chat with his bowler and the keeper, opts for the review. There is a spike on Ultra Edge as the ball passes the bat. The crowd erupts as they know the on-field call has to be overturned.
Azhar Alic Quinton de Kock b Vernon Philander 0 1 0 0 0
3.6
V Philander to Ali, OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Azhar Ali bags a golden duck, Philander takes two in two and the South Africans are ecstatic. Azhar Ali's poor tour continues. Another top delivery. This is first angled into the batsman which means Ali has to play at it. It then leaves him late and Azhar ends up pushing inside the line. It takes the outside edge and goes to the right of de Kock. He completes the catch with a dive. A really unplayable delivery first up for Azhar. Pakistan in trouble here! Philander will be on a hat-trick in his next over.
Mohammad Abbasc Theunis de Bruyn b Duanne Olivier 11 51 2 0 21.57
24.2
D Olivier to M Abbas, OUT! STOP THE PRESS! SOUTH AFRICA HAVE FINALLY TAKEN A CATCH!!! Abbas' lucky stay in the middle is over. Olivier delivers a full ball wide outside off, Abbas gets forward and pushes at it tentatively. It takes the outside edge and flies towards Theunis de Bruyn at third slip. He does well to react to his right and catch the ball safely. Plenty of relieved faces in the middle. The nightwatchman says good night but not before doing an amazing job. He survived a tough period last evening and also the first hour today. Well done, Abbas! Now it's over to Pakistan's fragile middle order. Can they put up a similar kind of a fight?
Asad Shafiqc Quinton de Kock b Duanne Olivier 0 3 0 0 0
24.5
Olivier to A Shafiq, OUT! One brings two! Asad bags a duck here! Poor, poor technique from Shafiq as he tried to duck under the bouncer without bringing his hands down, very strange as he usually has a good way of leaving the ball. Short of a length ball outside off, the batsman tried to evade the ball by going down but he forgot to bring his bat down as well. Hangs it out in the air and the ball pings off the glove and lobs to the keeper. De Kock has the simplest of catches and he is not going to drop that one. South Africa after a dry spell of an hour, have come roaring after the Drinks break. Pakistan losing their way yet again.
Babar Azamc Kagiso Rabada b Duanne Olivier 49 55 10 0 89.09
44.1
Olivier to B Azam, OUT! Bang! Bang! Babar is out of here, missing out on his half century by a run. Olivier gets his third wicket. Bowls his favourite short delivery, well-directed at the batsman, Azam tries to wheel the pull shot but it takes the top edge and flies straight to Rabada at fine leg. So once again Pakistan's free-flowing innings has hit a roadblock. Both the set batsmen are back in the pavilion.
Sarfraz Ahmed (C)(W)c Hashim Amla b Kagiso Rabada 50 40 8 0 125
43.3
K Rabada to Ahmed, OUT! Taken on the second attempt by Amla in the slip cordon. Hurled on a length outside off, Sarfraz tries to cut it away. It flies off the outside edge to Hashim at first slip at head height. He goes at it with soft hands and though the ball pops out at the first attempt, he does well to grab it on the second. An entertaining innings comes to an end. Sarfraz looks disappointed as he walks off. Should have been more sensible with his shot selection. The 78-run stand is over and the deficit is 93 now.
Shadab Khanc Theunis de Bruyn b Kagiso Rabada 5 15 1 0 33.33
49.4
K Rabada to S Khan, OUT! That is all over, KG Rabada has his second of the innings. Pakistan have lost their last two without scoring a run and their last five for 16 runs. They have been bowled out under 50 overs in a Test match. Olivier and Rabada have been too hot to handle for the lower order. This one is on a length outside off, Shadab goes to cut the ball but instead just ends up pushing it in the air to Theunis de Bruyn at gully. Simple catch, well taken and that's that. Pakistan are bowled out for 185 and have conceded a lead of 77. A big lead in the context of the game and considering the conditions.
Faheem Ashrafc Zubayr Hamza b Duanne Olivier 0 1 0 0 0
44.2
D Olivier to Ashraf, OUT! Bounced out! Two wickets in two balls. Faheem walks back without troubling the scorers. A brilliant bouncer first up to the left-hander. And absolutely poor stuff follows as Ashraf goes for the pull. The pace and bounce are too much and the ball lobs off the shoulder of the bat, softly to Hamza at short leg. Takes the easiest grab. 169/5 to 169/8. Fourth one for Olivier who is on a hat-trick now!
Mohammad Amirc Zubayr Hamza b Duanne Olivier 10 17 2 0 58.82
48.3
D Olivier to Amir, OUT! A very simple, soft wicket and Pakistan have lost their ninth. Olivier has five, his third one in Test cricket. Short of a length ball aimed at the ribs of the batsman. It is too good for the tailender who tries to fend it off on the leg side but gives a simple catch to short leg. Hamza with yet another catch. The short ball has been doing the trick since Lunch and Pakistan have just collapsed quite spectacularly again here. 4 wickets for 16 runs. The last pair out in the middle with a deficit of 77 still.

Dean Elgar (C)c Sarfraz Ahmed b Mohammad Amir 5 11 1 0 45.45
4.1
M Amir to Elgar, OUT! There is an inside edge. This time Pakistan are successful with the use of DRS. Amir comes up with a brilliant delivery. He lands it on a good length around off and gets it to shape back in with some extra bounce. Elgar tries to defend it but it appears that he has failed to put bat on ball. It strikes him high on the back leg and lobs to the keeper. A huge appeal follows but the umpire stays put. Amir is convinced here (we're not sure, about lbw or inside edge) and suggests his skipper to take the review. Sarfraz obliges. The replays roll in and the Ultra Edge detects some wood. The decision is reversed and Pakistan earn their first wicket. 10 runs in total in this Test match as the stand-in skipper for Elgar. Pressure?
Aiden Markramc Sarfraz Ahmed b Mohammad Abbas 21 25 4 0 84
8.4
M Abbas to Markram, OUT! A brilliant take from Sarfraz behind the wickets, diving full length to his right. Just two balls before, it was mentioned that Abbas is always accurate and McGrath-like with his lines and lengths. He bowls a third consecutive ball outside off and shapes this slightly away. Aiden Markram tries to push at it with not much foot movement and he only manages to get a healthy edge. The ball goes towards first slip, wouldn't have carried to Azhar Ali, Sarfraz senses that and really does well to dive to his right to pouch it. Pakistan have their second wicket of the innings and this could give them a really good boost. Markram departs after looking decent during his stay at the crease. This passage of play will be a very interesting one now if their bowlers get their tails up!
Hashim Amlac Sarfraz Ahmed b Hasan Ali 71 144 14 0 49.31
49.6
H Ali to Amla, OUT! Amla departs! He gets an unplayable delivery! It is on a length on off, Amla tries to defend it off the front foot, unfortunately for him, it hits one of the cracks and takes off. It hits him on his gloves and the ball lobs straight to Sarfraz who takes an easy catch behind the stumps, his 9th in the match. Replays later on show that Amla did try and take one hand off the handle so that the ball does not carry but it was too late by then. A much-needed wicket for the visitors as this 102-run partnership was taking the game away from them. Pakistan would hope this opens the floodgates.
Theunis de Bruync Asad Shafiq b Faheem Ashraf 7 17 1 0 41.18
14.3
F Ashraf to de Bruyn, OUT! I can't believe I am saying this but Pakistan's slip catching has been better than South Africa's in this game. An inspired bowling change this, Ashraf has done the trick in his 3rd ball itself. Bowls this one on a length outside off, Theunis de Bruyn looks to drive this away from his body without foot movement. The ball takes a thick outside edge and flies towards Asad Shafiq at second slip who takes a really smart catch. Good passage of play for Pakistan after Tea this, fighting their way back. The lead is 122 now.
Zubayr Hamzalbw b Faheem Ashraf 0 2 0 0 0
14.5
Ashraf to Hamza, OUT! Are we in for another collapse? Things happening again. This one stays a touch low after landing on a good length around off. The ball shapes back in as well to Hamza's bad luck. He tries to work it around but it goes under his blade and raps him on the pads. Ashraf turns to appeal and the finger has gone up. Zubayr walks without troubling the scorers. No need to review that. A good period of play for Pakistan continues but they need to keep chipping away at the wickets to stay in the hunt.
Temba Bavumac Sarfraz Ahmed b Shadab Khan 23 42 3 0 54.76
28.3
S Khan to Bavuma, OUT! A wicket goes down against the run of play and the leggie has done the job for Sarfraz. A flighted leg spinner outside off, Bavuma stays back and has a needless poke inside the line. The ball curls away to catch a thin outside edge and Sarfraz makes no mistake. They appeal and the umpire agrees. The 48-run stand is broken, smiles return in the Pakistan camp but the lead is now 170.
Quinton de Kock (W)c Hasan Ali b Shadab Khan 129 138 18 1 93.48
78.2
S Khan to Kock, OUT! De Kock departs. It was a tossed up delivery on middle, de Kock goes for the slog but gets a top edge on it and the ball goes uppishly towards deep square leg. The fielder, Hasan Ali, there takes a good catch in the end. An outstanding and entertaining innings comes to an end. Surely it has to be one of his best innings. He came in when the chips were down, but took the attack to the opposition by playing some brilliant shots. Standing ovation from the dressing room and from the crowd who have come in numbers. Top knock from him.
Vernon Philanderlbw b Mohammad Amir 14 33 3 0 42.42
58.6
M Amir to Philander, OUT! There is just no bat involved and it is plumb in front. Amir with the breakthrough! Coming to the delivery, it is a toe-crusher, it also comes back in late. Philander is surprised by the sudden change in length, he tries to keep it out with his bat and pad close. Amir appeals as he feels it has hit the boot first. The umpire agrees and raises the finger. Philander though reviews. The replays show it has hit the toe and returns three reds. Philander has to continue his walk back and he takes a review with him. The visitors are into the bowlers now. Lead - 300!
Kagiso Rabadac Shadab Khan b Faheem Ashraf 21 62 3 0 33.87
79.2
F Ashraf to Rabada, OUT! In the air... taken! No. 9 goes down as Rabada walks back after playing a handy knock. It is short and angled across the batter. Rabada tries to drag his pull but ends up getting a top edge. Shadab Khan at covers takes an easy catch.

S Khan to Olivier, OUT! Shadab gets the last man. Khan gets his third of the innings. It is a nicely flighted delivery on middle, Olivier tries to defend it off the front foot but gets an outside edge on it as the ball turns away. Sarfraz behind the stumps takes it brilliantly. He picks up his 10th catch of the match as well. South Africa are all out for 303.

Steyn to Imam, OUT! Imam departs! Dale Steyn with the breakthrough! The change of ends has worked for him. Length delivery angling in, Imam is on the back foot trying to defend but the ball shapes away after pitching. It takes the outside edge and goes straight into the keeper's gloves who takes a comfortable catch behind the stumps. Steyn appeals and the umpire waits before raising his finger. Imam has to walk back. He fails to make use of the start he got. A fluent looking opening stand has been broken. They though have done a decent job.
Shan Masoodc Quinton de Kock b Dale Steyn 37 66 4 0 56.06
23.6
D Steyn to Masood, OUT! There is an inside edge. Dale Steyn gets his second and he is on fire since he has changed ends. Both the set batsmen now back in the hut. Excellent use of technology by South Africa. Steyn lands it around off and this one jags back in. Masood plays outside the line and there is a noise as the ball passes the bat. It goes towards de Kock off the thigh pad who takes it diving to his right. He gets up in joy and appeals. Steyn too puts in a loud shout. The umpire though shakes his head. Elgar after a chat with his teammates, reviews. Replays roll in and they initially indicate that the ball has taken an inside edge, deflects onto the thigh pad and then to the keeper. Ultra Edge confirms the same and the decision has to be overturned. Masood is not happy with himself as he trudges back. South Africa would like to deliver a few more blows before Stumps.
Azhar Alic Quinton de Kock b Duanne Olivier 15 41 3 0 36.59
30.5
D Olivier to Ali, OUT! A snorter that, an absolute snorter sees the end of Azhar Ali. His poor tour comes to a close. An extremely well-directed bumper, it gets big on the batsman. Ali tries to fend it away by hopping but it takes the gloves and lobs towards de Kock behind who makes no mistake. His third catch of the game and probably the easiest. From 67 for 0, Pakistan have slipped to 104 for 3.
Asad Shafiqc Dean Elgar b Vernon Philander 65 71 11 0 91.55
47.1
V Philander to A Shafiq, OUT! And in all probability, there goes the last hope for the visitors! Asad Shafiq has been caught at slip and has to depart after a well-compiled 65 but that doesn't look like it is going to be enough for his side. Vernon Philander has looked dangerous this morning and many have kept low as well. That must have been playing in the batsman's mind. He comes ahead and tries to defend it on the off side but this one bounces more from a good length outside off and it takes the edge and goes to second slip at a good height. Elgar makes no mistake, Vernon has his first and SA are just 4 away now!
Babar Azamc Quinton de Kock b Duanne Olivier 21 29 5 0 72.41

D Olivier to Azam, OUT! Another brute of the delivery by Olivier and it gets the better of Azam. Just how do you play those? Ali did not have an answer to that and now Azam too does not have one. 23rd wicket in this series for him. He bangs it short again and this one is on the body, it pitches and zips off the surface. Babar can't get out of the way, he tries to fend it away by hopping. However, the jump too does not allow him to get over the bounce. It kisses the glove and goes into the mitts of the keeper. It is the fourth catch for De Kock in this innings. Early strike and they have broken the stand which was looking threatening.

D Olivier to S Ahmed, OUT! KABOOM! Two in two for Olivier. The skipper bags a golden duck! He is completely beaten for pace. Also credit to Olivier, he kept bowling short but this time he serves this one on a length. Sarfraz is surprised by it. He fails to get his bat down in time, the ball once again skids through and hits the top of off. The South Africans are pumped. They are into the all-rounders now as Pakistan have half their side back in the hut. 5 wickets away are South Africa from a whitewash.

K Rabada to Ashraf, OUT! Rabada strikes in his first over itself. Excellent bowling change this one! But a lot of credit has to be given to the fielder here. He has taken a very sharp catch. Short and outside off, Faheem goes after it. The ball takes the outside edge and flies towards Markram's left, he reacts quickly and takes a tumbling catch. South Africa into the tail now.
Mohammad Amirc Aiden Markram b Kagiso Rabada 4 5 1 0 80

K Rabada to Amir, OUT! Catching practice for Markram, this time it is a much simpler one than the previous catch. Rabada comes back to a good length outside off, Amir just opens the face of the bat and guides it right into the hands of gully. Aiden makes no mistake. Rabada has his second in two overs today, SA finding it all too easy now, 2 to go for 3-0!
Hasan Alic & b Kagiso Rabada 22 14 2 1 157.14

Rabada to Ali, OUT! This time it is taken! Rabada calls for it and Rabada takes it. He has bounced Hasan Ali out here. Two bouncers to which Ali ducked well, the third one hit him on the gloves and the fourth one, he has had enough. Goes for the pull and gets a top edge. The pace on the ball was a bit too much for him, bowled at 146 kph! It goes straight up in the air and KG calls early and takes a really simple catch. His third wicket. After a slightly frustrating partnership, Hasan Ali departs, 1 left to go.

D Elgar to Abbas, OUT! Run out! What a comical way to end the match. Where was Abbas going, only he will know. A flighted one on middle, Abbas pushes it towards mid on and sets off but his partner was going no where. The fielder throws it back to De Kock who takes the stumps off.
