Stephen Cookc Mitchell Marsh b Mitchell Starc 0 4 0 0 0
0.4
M Starc to S Cook, OUT! Mitchel Marsh has taken a stunner! Wow, what a cracking start to the summer for the Aussies. Cook has been cooked very early. Starc delivers a snorter around off, on back of a length again and there is extra bounce too at 147.5 kph. Cook is squared up in defense and the outside edge flies to gully. Mitchell Marsh stationed there dives to his left and takes a stunning two-handed catch. The Aussies are all pumped up and Stephen walks back with a forlorn face.
Dean Elgarc Peter Nevill b Josh Hazlewood 12 22 2 0 54.55
7.6
J Hazlewood to Elgar, OUT! Elgar falls! It's going from bad to worse for South Africa. The top three batsmen are back in the hut with just 20 runs on the board. Hazlewood hurls across a length ball just outside off, angling away, Elgar goes back and has a tame push inside the line after getting squared up. He tries withdrawing his bat at the last moment but it seems he's too late. The keeper collects the ball, they appeal and the finger goes up. Elgar walks up to his partner, has a chat with him but Duminy advises not to waste the review. Anyway, it has to be Elgar's call as he will be knowing best whether he got an edge or not. Dean walks back and Snicko detects a spike there. Fair call in the end. Hazlewood gets his second wicket and Australia have taken an early advantage in this Test match. Best possible start.
Hashim Amlac Steven Smith b Josh Hazlewood 0 5 0 0 0
3.1
J Hazlewood to H Amla, OUT! Amla is a goner! A massive setback for South Africa! Hazlewood may not be as ferocious as Starc with his pace but he is McGrath-esque with his line and length. Hurls it in the good area just outside off, Amla with a tentative footwork has a gentle push inside the line and edges it behind to second slip. Steven Smith is patrolling that region and rest is history. He doesn't drop many. Amla bags a duck and Australia are off to a flier! Damien Fleming on twitter has termed this line from Hazlewood as - Hazlewood hallway of hesitation! Top stuff.
JP Duminyc Peter Nevill b Peter Siddle 11 23 0 0 47.83
12.2
P Siddle to Duminy, OUT! Technology backs Australia and South Africa are reduced to 32/4! Beauty of a delivery by the old warhorse! On a full length and angling away from the batsman after landing around middle. Duminy gets forward to defend but it whizzes past the inside edge to the keeper. There is some sound as Nevill catches the ball and he screams in an appeal. The finger goes up and Duminy takes the DRS. The third umpire watches multiple replays and after getting the evidence from the Hot Spot he keeps the onfield decision as it is. A faint edge on the replays and Duminy walks back. First hour totally has belonged to the home side.
Faf du Plessis (C)c Adam Voges b Mitchell Starc 37 74 5 0 50
27.6
M Starc to du Plessis, OUT! Starc strikes soon after lunch! Starc dishes out a back of a length delivery outside off, du Plessis rocks back and tries to force the issue through covers. But it seems the ball has moved a touch to take an outside edge. It flies to the right of first slip where Voges reacts quickly and grabs a two-handed catch. A good looking 49-run stand has been broken and South Africa have now lost half their side. du Plessis showed great level of patience till this ball and is disappointed with himself. Trudges back now.
Temba Bavumac Shaun Marsh b Nathan Lyon 51 86 7 0 59.3
43.4
N Lyon to T Bavuma, OUT! That is a stunner! Wow. Goodness me. Both the Marsh brothers have taken blinders in the field today. Earlier, it was Mitchell in the first over and now, it is the elder brother Shaun. Landed around off, perhaps a touch short, Bavuma stays back to turn it around the corner but gets an inside edge. The ball hits him on his thigh pad and goes towards the leg side. Shaun Marsh at short leg, dives to his right, his wrong side and takes it inches above the ground! Nevill appeals, so does Lyon, the umpire asks them to wait but Bavuma is not bothered. He walks off! End of an enterprising stand and Australia are into the lower order.
Quinton de Kock (W)c Shaun Marsh b Josh Hazlewood 84 101 11 1 83.17
60.6
J Hazlewood to Kock, OUT! Quinton de Kock misses out on a deserving century! Hazlewood digs in a shortish ball on middle, de Kock swivels with the pull shot but it comes from the higher part of the bat and balloons in the air. Shaun Marsh moves back a bit from short mid-wicket and takes a simple catch. End of a wonderful knock by de Kock, he batted without much issues and dominated the Aussie bowlers.
Vernon Philanderb Mitchell Starc 10 32 1 0 31.25
52.3
M Starc to Philander, OUT! DRAGS IT ON! Starc has struck moments before Tea. A poor shot from Philander, one has to say. A length ball outside off, not all that short, Philander looks to pull but there is no feet movement and he gets a thick inside edge onto his stumps. Starc is pumped up, he has got his third wicket. And to think he has just come off a nasty injury. TEA ON DAY 1!
Keshav Maharajc David Warner b Nathan Lyon 16 19 1 1 84.21
59.6
N Lyon to Maharaj, OUT! Maharaj holes out! A loopy full ball around off, Maharaj advances down the track to loft it over long on but fails to get the timing right. Warner takes the skier calmly and ends Maharaj's short stay. Wasn't to the pitch of the ball there, Keshav. The fielding effort on the last ball by Khawaja was also the key there. It's a team sport.
Kagiso Rabadanot out 11 12 2 0 91.67
Dale Steynb Mitchell Starc 4 4 1 0 100
63.4
M Starc to Steyn, OUT! Bowled 'em! You miss buddy and I hit! Starc steams in from around the wicket and spears in a fuller length ball on middle, it's fast and furious, Steyn makes space but fails to keep it out and finds his stumps shattered. SOUTH AFRICA ARE ALL OUT FOR 242!

35.2
D Steyn to Warner, OUT! NO TON FOR WARNER! He only has himself to blame. Length ball angling away outside off, a bit of away movement with extra bounce. Warner flashes at it but gets the thick edge that goes straight to Amla at first slip. Much-needed wicket for the Proteas as Warner walks back disappointed. He knew a big ton was there for the taking. Steyn is absolutely pumped up. Can the Proteas use this opening to make a comeback in the game?
Shaun Marshlbw b Vernon Philander 63 148 7 0 42.57
46.5
V Philander to Marsh, OUT! Marsh departs! SA are on a roll here! Full and tailing in from around off, Marsh plays across the line to be pinged on the front pad. Huge lbw appeal which is given by the umpire. Looked quite plumb but Shaun decides to take the review. No bat involved for sure and it's confirmed by both Hot Spot as well as Snicko. Ball Tracker shows it hitting leg stump. Waste of a review to be honest and Australia have lost both their DRS appeals. LUNCH HAS BEEN TAKEN ON DAY 2.
Usman Khawajab Kagiso Rabada 4 17 0 0 23.53
40.4
Rabada to U Khawaja, OUT! The off pole has gone for a walk! Great ball from Rabada and he is elated. Full and just around off, nips in as Khawaja looks to push tamely at it. Leaves a slight gap between bat and pad but that was enough as the movement sends the off stump for a mini dance. The South Africans wanted this badly especially after Steyn's absence from the field.
Steven Smith (C)lbw b Keshav Maharaj 0 4 0 0 0
41.3
K Maharaj to Smith, OUT! Maiden Test wicket for Maharaj! What a wicket to start off his career with. Floated and outside off, Smith steps out to work across the line but finds himself in a tangle to be rapped on the pads. Loud appeal for lbw and it's given immediately. Smith isn't happy and decides to review it. No bat involved and that's confirmed by Hot Spot as well as RTS. Ball Tracker shows it's clipping leg stump, so the on-field call will stay. A duck for the Australian skipper. The Proteas are starting to turn things around here. This has been an excellent 45 minutes or so for them.
Adam Vogesc & b Kagiso Rabada 27 60 4 0 45
60.6
Rabada to Voges, OUT! Rabada strikes! Massive setback for the Aussies as the last proper batsman departs. A full length ball angling into the batsman, swinging in, Voges falls over to the off side as he attempts to flick it on the leg side but he closes the face of the bat early and the ball pops out of the leading edge. Rabada takes the return catch with ease and Australia lose their sixth wicket. They still trail by 40 runs!
Mitchell Marshlbw b Vernon Philander 0 8 0 0 0
50.1
V Philander to Marsh, OUT! Marsh has been adjudged lbw! Philander strikes again and Australia have now lost half their side. He hurls in a length ball on off, shaping in a bit, Marsh fails to defend it from the crease and it hits him on the back leg. They appeal and the finger goes up. A disappointing outing with the bat for the younger Marsh, bags a duck. Australia still trail by 61 runs!
Peter Nevill (W)c Hashim Amla b Keshav Maharaj 23 53 2 1 43.4
67.5
K Maharaj to P Nevill, OUT! Maharaj has his third! What a debut game he is having after a horror start! Floated outside off, Nevill steps out to push at it but the ball lobs towards gully where Amla takes it very well after moving to his right from slip. Appeal for a catch as SA feel there is an inside edge that's rebounded off the pad. The umpire's finger is raised straightaway. Replays do not confirm anything. No reviews left anyway and so Nevill has to go.
Mitchell Starcc Faf du Plessis b Keshav Maharaj 0 5 0 0 0
61.6
K Maharaj to Starc, OUT! Faf du Plessis takes a sharp catch and Starc bags a duck! Flighted ball on middle, fuller in length, Starc winds up for a flick shot but fails to middle it. It comes off the inside half of the bat, loops towards short mid-wicket where du Plessis dives to his left and snaps a good low catch. Australia going down quickly.
Peter Siddlenot out 18 25 3 0 72
Josh Hazlewoodc JP Duminy b Vernon Philander 4 5 0 0 80
70.1
V Philander to Hazlewood, OUT! Soft, soft dismissal! Length ball outside off, Hazlewood plays it with an angled bat and offers catching practice to gully where Duminy takes it with minimum fuss. Cannot blame a tailender for this kind of shot but nevertheless, Hazlewood should have tried something better.
Nathan Lyonc Dean Elgar b Vernon Philander 0 2 0 0 0
70.2
V Philander to Lyon, OUT! Philander has wrapped it up! Full and outside off, a bit of shape away as Lyon flashes at it but gets a thick edge that flies low to third slip where Elgar snaps it up. What a comeback this is from SA today! Absolutely incredible! Australia have been bowled out for 244, lead by just 2. TEA HAS BEEN TAKEN EARLY ON DAY 2.

Stephen Cookc Shaun Marsh b Peter Siddle 12 55 2 0 21.82
16.4
P Siddle to Cook, OUT! Siddle draws first blood! Short and around off, Cook goes for the pull but cannot keep the shot down. The ball flies to short mid-wicket where Shaun Marsh dives to his left to take a brilliant catch. He took a superb one in the first innings as well and has got the Aussies a much-needed wicket.
Dean Elgarc Mitchell Starc b Josh Hazlewood 127 316 17 1 40.19
106.3
J Hazlewood to Elgar, OUT! Hazlewood strikes! How often have you seen a wicket falling after the break? Full ball and angling in from outside off, Elgar drives away from his body without moving his feet. Gets a thick edge that flies straight to Starc who gobbles it up at gully. Ends a really gritty knock from the opener although he did look scratchy for a major part of the innings. Lead is now 322.
Hashim Amlab Josh Hazlewood 1 7 0 0 14.29
20.1
J Hazlewood to Amla, OUT! Got him! Twin failures for Amla. Length ball around off, nips in sharply as Amla plays back to that one. He is late on it and is beaten by the movement as the ball crashes into the sticks. Hazlewood is pumped up and so are the rest of the Aussies. They know how big this wicket is. SA lead by 43. Suddenly the hosts seem to have found some kind of momentum after a dry spell with the new ball.
JP Duminyc Peter Nevill b Peter Siddle 141 225 20 1 62.67
94.3
P Siddle to Duminy, OUT! The decision is overturned and Australia are all smiles. They needed it, they desperately needed it. Peter Siddle has provided a much, much-needed breakthrough. Coming to the ball, he hurls it nice and full outside off, since this was the last over before tea, Duminy could have easily let it go. But that wasn't meant to be. He fiddles with it and it goes through to to the keeper. An appeal is made but the umpire stays unmoved. Smith takes the review. There was surely some noise but Hot Spot shows nothing. Snicko confirms there was an edge and that is it. End of a massive 250-run stand and Jean Paul Duminy walks back but not before playing a splendid knock. TEA ON DAY 3!
Faf du Plessis (C)c Peter Nevill b Mitchell Starc 32 64 6 0 50

M Starc to Plessis, OUT! Got him... yes gone! Starc goes full and outside off, du Plessis looks to drive but the ball kisses the outside part of the willow and Nevill behind the stumps takes a regulation catch. Australia are picking wickets at will here, can they bowl the South Africans out today itself?
Temba Bavumac Usman Khawaja b Mitchell Marsh 8 18 2 0 44.44
112.3
M Marsh to Bavuma, OUT! Mitchell Marsh strikes! Bowls it short on middle, Bavuma is a bit cramped for room but still goes through with the pull shot. He connects it but much to his dismay it goes straight to Khawaja at deep square leg and takes a good catch. Marsh deserved the wicket as he has been really good today. So, half the side back in the hut for SA! Can Australia take the next 5 quickly?
Quinton de Kock (W)c Adam Voges b Mitchell Marsh 64 100 5 2 64

M Marsh to Kock, OUT! Good catch! Slower ball outside off, de Kock goes for the drive but cannot keep the stroke down. Voges at short extra cover takes a fine catch stretching across to his left. De Kock departs after playing another useful knock. Lead is now 466.

S Smith to Philander, OUT! Bowled 'em! Steven Smith gets a scalp here. Tossed up ball around middle and off, Philander makes room to go over extra cover but is undone. Misses it and sees the woodwork being disturbed. No celebration at all and there comes the sign from the Protea dressing room. SOUTH AFRICA HAVE HAD ENOUGH AND HAVE DECLARED FOR 540/8 AND LEAD BY A HUMONGOUS 538 RUNS!

12.6
K Rabada to S Marsh, OUT! Edged and gone! Australia have lost both their openers in the span of four balls. Good length delivery on off, Shaun Marsh feels for it and pays the price for the same. Thick outside edge is induced and Faf du Plessis at second slip takes a regulation catch. Australia in big trouble now.
David Warnerrun out (Temba Bavuma) 35 33 6 0 106.06
12.2
K Rabada to Warner, OUT! RUN OUT! Warner is short of his ground! This is simply outstanding from Temba Bavuma. Australia in a spot of bother now as they have lost a big wicket in the form of David Warner. Length ball on off, Warner taps it towards short cover and calls for a single immediately. Bavuma stationed there quickly gets to the ball, picks it up and flicks a throw at the non-striker's end. All in one motion and much to his delight it hits the timber at that end. Touch and go and the umpire takes it upstairs. Replays show Warner is just short to make it in. South Africa get their first wicket.
Usman Khawajalbw b JP Duminy 97 182 11 3 53.3
76.1
JP Duminy to Khawaja, OUT! Review cannot save Khawaja! Slider on middle and leg, skids through to ping him on the back pad as he looks to block. Huge lbw appeal and it's given by the umpire. Khawaja decides to take the review. Nothing on Hot Spot and Snicko. What does Ball Tracker have to show? It's clipping leg stump and so the on-field call will stay. Huge blow to Australia's hopes of saving the game as Khawaja departs agonizingly close to his ton by the same margin as his mate Warner in the first innings. The bowling change works instantly for the tourists. SA now need just 4 more wickets.
Steven Smith (C)c Quinton de Kock b Kagiso Rabada 34 91 5 0 37.36
44.3
Rabada to Smith, OUT! Rabada gets the big fish! Loose shot from the Australian skipper and he has to pay for it. Full and outside off, Smith looks for the expansive drive but the ball just curves away a bit to take the nick that is snapped up by de Kock. The South Africans are absolutely pumped up as they know how big a wicket that is. Smith won't be happy when he sees the replays of this dismissal, he could have left it alone.

K Rabada to Voges, OUT! Got him! Rabada has his man! What a spell this! Full and angled in from outside off, straightens after pitching as Voges pokes at it. Gets a faint edge that is gobbled up by de Kock behind the sticks. South Africa are on the charge now.
Mitchell Marshlbw b Kagiso Rabada 26 52 4 0 50

Rabada to Marsh, OUT! Top ball from Rabada! A good review too from the Proteas. Very full and tailing in sharply into Marsh who tries to dig it out. The ball raps the boot and then goes off the bat past the bowler. Huge appeal for lbw but that's not given. South Africa decides to review it. Nothing on Hot Spot or Snicko. Hawk Eye shows it hitting leg stump! The on-field call has to be overturned. Whoa, that's a surprise for the Aussie camp as it didn't seem so plumb to the naked eye. But the key here was that the ball was very full and so had little distance to travel. SA have made their first breakthrough, 4-fer now for Rabada.

Rabada to Starc, OUT! Got him! Yes, gone! Spears in a terrific inswinging yorker that dips into Starc who fails to dig out. He gets hit on the back boot. Huge lbw appeal and it's given by the umpire. Nevill urges Starc to take the review. No bat involved for sure. Hot Spot and Snicko confirm the same. Ball Tracker shows it hitting leg stump. Fourth 5-fer in Tests for Rabada. What a superstar this lad is! Future legend for sure. SA just need 3 more wickets now.

V Philander to Siddle, OUT! The new ball does the trick! Length ball outside off, nips back in sharply to crash into Siddle's pads as he was trying to play back to it. Big lbw appeal and it's given. The Protea players are jubilant. Just 2 more wickets needed now.
Josh Hazlewoodc Dean Elgar b Temba Bavuma 29 71 5 0 40.85

T Bavuma to Hazlewood, OUT! Bavuma finally gets a breakthrough! He was bowling in the right areas and has finally reaped dividends. Good length delivery on off, Hazlewood looks to flick but gets a leading edge as the ball lobs towards covers where Dean Elgar takes an easy reverse cup catch over his head. Temba is all delighted and this pair fought hard and hung for 123 balls. So, end is NIGH for the Aussies!

K Maharaj to Lyon, OUT! The decision stays as it is! Keshav Maharaj seals it for South Africa! Floated ball around middle, angling in as well. Nathan Lyon prods forward to defend but misses and is rapped on the pads right in front of the stumps. An appeal is made and umpire Llong rules it out immediately. They take it upstairs and replays show it was clipping the leg pole. So, the on-field umpire's call stays and that is it. SOUTH AFRICA WIN BY 177 RUNS AND GO 1-0 UP IN THE SERIES!
