South Africa

Batting R B 4s 6s SR
Quinton de Kock (W)c Alex Carey b Mitchell Starc 4 7 0 0 57.14
2.1
M Starc to de Kock, OUT! Caught behind! Big wicket for Australia. This is what bowling at 145 clicks an hour can do. Mitchell Starc is back on song. A big blow to South Africa. On a length, just outside off, de Kock feels for that ball but it moves away just a bit, to take the outside edge. Simple catch to Alex Carey behind, who collects and appeals. Up goes umpire Aleem Dar's finger and de Kock does not bother to review.
Reeza Hendricksc Alex Carey b Marcus Stoinis 8 26 2 0 30.77
9.2
M Stoinis to R Hendricks, OUT! Would you believe it? It is Stoinis who gives the breakthrough! On his very second ball! One of the worst balls to get out to. It is a nothing delivery, pitched on a length and down the leg side. Hendricks gets across, looks to tuck it fine but is not quite able to do that cleanly. The ball does hit the face of the bat but goes straight to Alex Carey who does not have to move much to his left. He catches, appeals, Stoinis does not even bother to. Because his face resembles that of a person who can do nothing wrong. The umpire raises his finger and off goes Reeza.
Aiden Markramc Alex Carey b Mitchell Starc 32 42 1 3 76.19
15.3
M Starc to A Markram, OUT! Another dismissal strangled down the leg side! Ordinary cricket from the bowler and batsman. Australia profit though. Loose delivery, almost like a warm-up one. Full and down the leg side, Markram walks down the pitch and looks to tickle it fine. But just like Hendricks, he is not able to get it past Carey. He just stands there and looks at the heavens. No one but himself to blame. Two gifted wickets for the Aussies.
Faf du Plessis (C)c Shaun Marsh b Marcus Stoinis 125 114 15 2 109.65
48.4
M Stoinis to du Plessis, OUT! Stop the press. A wicket has fallen at the Adelaide Oval. Faf du Plessis walks off to a standing ovation. Short and outside off, Faf reaches out and slashes it towards cover. Does not get enough power and Shaun Marsh gets a catching opportunity. He charges in, dives and takes a splendid catch. Something to smile for the Aussies. Take a bow, Faf.
David Millerc Aaron Finch b Josh Hazlewood 139 108 13 4 128.7
49.4
J Hazlewood to D Miller, OUT! Miller cannot quite stay till the end. A high full toss, David swings this over mid-wicket. It seems like it is another six but Aaron Finch near the ropes composes himself, takes the catch, then realizes that he is going over, throws the ball in the air and then comes back to take it cleanly. Excellent is an understatement for Miller's knock. Just imagine - he did not want to review that LBW off Maxwell but Faf... well played.

Australia

Batting R B 4s 6s SR
Chris Lynnc Quinton de Kock b Dale Steyn 0 1 0 0 0
0.1
D Steyn to C Lynn, OUT! Edged and taken! There goes the first wicket. And it has not even taken a ball. Technically, this is the first ball, since the previous one was a wide. 'Funny shot' says Shane Warne on air. On a length outside off, Lynn looks to punch it through the off side but there is no feet movement. Extra bounce is there too. As a result, an outside edge is induced, which goes straight to Quinton de Kock, who has to move a bit to his right. A nothing shot from Lynn.
Aaron Finch (C)c Kagiso Rabada b Lungi Ngidi 11 15 1 0 73.33
3.2
L Ngidi to A Finch, OUT! Caught! Number 2 goes and with that possibly the match too. Ngidi strikes. On a length, around off, coming in, Finch looks to chip it straight but the ball stops a bit on the surface. Hence, it comes late. Takes the inner half of the bat and gently lobs to mid on where Kagiso Rabada completes the formalities. Australia needed their skipper to score big to have a chance tonight. 303 more needed to win from 280 balls.
Shaun Marshc Heinrich Klaasen b Dwaine Pretorius 106 102 7 4 103.92
41.2
D Pretorius to S Marsh, OUT! Is that the match? A short ball, around middle, Marsh looks to pull but gets a top edge. The ball goes high in the air and Heinrich Klaasen keeps his cool under it at deep mid-wicket. Reverse-cups the catch and now the Proteas explode around him. That should be the match. Well played, Shaun Marsh. Unfortunately, not enough for Australia though. 95 more needed from 52 balls.
Travis Headc Aiden Markram b Kagiso Rabada 6 21 1 0 28.57
10.1
K Rabada to T Head, OUT! Caught! There goes number 3! This bloke had scored a boundary off his first ball. Then got just 2 from the next 19. The pressure of dots has told. A short ball outside off, Head leaps and cuts it towards backward point where Aiden Markram takes it nicely. Head walks back with a forlorn face. 282 more needed to win from 239 balls.
Marcus Stoinisc Aiden Markram b Dwaine Pretorius 63 76 5 4 82.89
29.6
D Pretorius to M Stoinis, OUT! Pretorius gets the breakthrough! That douses the Aussie hopes. These two were just beginning to show some fight but before it could muster into something dangerous, South Africa have nipped it into the bud. A short ball, outside off, Stoinis looks to cut but hits it straight to Aiden Markram at backward point! The 107-run stand is broken. Fine knock by Stoinis. Played calculated shots.
Alex Carey (W)c Quinton de Kock b Dale Steyn 42 41 1 1 102.44
44.6
D Steyn to A Carey, OUT! Caught behind! Carey does not get to his half century. That was the only thing left in this game. Backs away to the leg side, Steyn follows him, Alex tries to force it through the off side but only manages a thick edge.
Glenn Maxwellc Reeza Hendricks b Dale Steyn 35 27 3 0 129.63
48.3
D Steyn to G Maxwell, OUT! The Big Show falls. A pretty ungainly situation for him, having had too much to do. Backs away and slices this hard and this one goes straight to Reeza Hendricks at sweeper cover. Steyn has his third.
Pat Cumminsnot out 7 12 1 0 58.33
Mitchell Starcc & b Kagiso Rabada 0 1 0 0 0
49.1
K Rabada to M Starc, OUT! Caught and bowled. Rabada has his second. A short ball, Starc looks to defend but the ball rises up steeply and sticks off the surface. Ends up hitting it straight up in the air. Easy catch.
Adam Zampac Faf du Plessis b Kagiso Rabada 0 3 0 0 0
49.4
K Rabada to A Zampa, OUT! Number 9 down now. A short ball, Zampa looks to pull but miscues it towards mid-wicket.
