Tamim Iqbalb Dilruwan Perera 52 53 6 1 98.11
15.5
D Perera to Iqbal, OUT! Breaches the defense of Tamim! Dilruwan Perera with the breakthrough. Much-needed one as the veteran opener was looking dangerous here. Perera slides in an arm ball, it lands on middle and off as Tamim presses forward to defend. The ball skids off the surface, beats the defense on the inside and deflects off the pads to strike the timber. Superb delivery! Iqbal departs after a blazing start.
Imrul Kayeslbw b Lakshan Sandakan 40 75 4 0 53.33
27.4
L Sandakan to Kayes, OUT! Trapped in front! Both the Bangladesh openers are back in the hut! Sandakan strikes to end the first session on a high. Beautiful delivery, this! Bowls a googly, drops it outside off. Kayes prods forward in defense but this one turns back in to hit him flush on the pads adjacent to the stumps. Huge appeal follows to which the umpire has no hesitation in raising his finger. Imrul walks across to his partner and after discussing with him decides against taking the DRS and continues to walk back. Looked like a dead duck. LUNCH ON DAY 1!
Mominul Haquec Kusal Mendis b Rangana Herath 176 214 16 1 82.24
92.4
R Herath to Haque, OUT! Chipped straight to short leg! Excellent take from Kusal Mendis! Rangana Herath strikes for the first time in the game. Not a good ball but Sri Lanka wouldn't mind it at all. From over the wicket, Rangana tosses it up around middle and leg, Haque comes down the track and looks to flick it away. He does so but it goes straight towards short leg where it hits Mendis on the left side of the chest. The fielder is aware and does well to grab it in the second attempt. Soft dismissal to say the least. So, no ton for Rahim, no double ton for Haque either as he adds just a run to his overnight tally. Half the side back in the hut for the hosts.
Mushfiqur Rahimc Niroshan Dickwella b Suranga Lakmal 92 192 10 0 47.92
83.5
S Lakmal to Rahim, OUT! Lakmal induces an edge! Finally, finally Sri Lanka taste success after the first session today. Suranga keeps it on a length and in the avenue of apprehension. Rahim with no feet movement goes after this one. The ball bounces just a bit more, takes the outer half of the bat and settles into the mitts of Dickwella behind. The second new ball has done the trick for Sri Lanka. Rahim stands there in dismay as he misses out on a deserving ton. This is the third time in Tests that Rahim has been dismissed in the nervous nineties. Seemed like it was a lapse in concentration from the wicket-keeper batsman. Nonetheless, the 236-run stand has been broken.
Liton Das (W)b Suranga Lakmal 0 1 0 0 0
83.6
S Lakmal to Das, OUT! Off stump goes for a walk! One brings two as the saying goes! An error in judgement from Das means that Lakmal now will be on a hat-trick in the next over. Sri Lanka rejoice! Lakmal hurls a length ball outside off, Liton Das leans forward and thinks that he has his off stump covered but the ball nips back in to take it apart. Das walks back for a golden duck, which happens to be the first blob in his Test career. Can Sri Lanka pick up another?
Mahmudullah (C)not out 83 134 7 2 61.94
Mosaddek Hossainc Lakshan Sandakan b Rangana Herath 8 15 1 0 53.33
96.1
R Herath to Hossain, OUT! Straight to mid on! Poor shot to be honest! Herath spots that Hossain is giving him the charge and hence he tosses it on leg, following the batsman. The ball pitches and turns in just a bit. The batsman is already down the track and hence goes on with the lofted shot. Spoons it off the inner half and hands a simple catch to Lakshan Sandakan at mid on, who pouches it with a couple of steps backwards. So, Bangladesh lose their second wicket for just 16 runs in 37 balls this morning. Collapse on the cards?
Mehidy Hasanrun out (Lahiru Kumara) 20 19 1 1 105.26
102.2
R Herath to Hasan, OUT! Run Out! Even the dive doesn't save Mehidy Hasan. Flatter delivery outside off, Mahmudullah dabs it past the lone slip fielder and sets off. Karunarante from slip gives it a chase and so does Kumara who sprints across to his left from third man. Mehidy calls for the third run to which his skipper responds. The pacer gets to the ball and returns a throw to Dickwella who collects and takes the bails off as the batsman dives to get back in. Looked really close and they take it upstairs. Replays show that the bails had come off and then the bat came in. Enough for the TV umpire to rule it out. Bangladesh are throwing it away.
Sunzamul Islamst Niroshan Dickwella b Lakshan Sandakan 24 56 1 0 42.86
119.3
L Sandakan to Islam, STUMPED OUT! Yes, Islam is well down the track but the margin of dismissal is not as much as we thought it to be. Sandakan spots Sunzamul being ready to charge down the track and fires this down the leg side. The number 9 misses the flick post that and Dickwella uproots the stumps and goes up in celebration. On the first look he seems to be a clear goner but the third umpire is called for. Replays show that he is just short of the crease as the keeper had to collect it well to his right and then go for the stumping. Sri Lanka finally manage to get through this stubborn stand.
Taijul Islamb Rangana Herath 1 3 0 0 33.33
120.2
R Herath to T Islam, OUT! Dream delivery to any batsman leave alone the tailender. Tossed up outside off, Islam lunges forward to block but leaves some gap between bat and pad. The ball lands in the rough there and spins in sharply to peg back the LEG STUMP. Alarming turn, elates the Lankans this time. They are one wicket away from ending their time on the field.
Mustafizur Rahmanc Niroshan Dickwella b Suranga Lakmal 8 21 0 1 38.1
129.5
S Lakmal to Rahman, Nice shot? Oh no! BANGLADESH ALL OUT! This is banged short again on the stumps, Rahman initially looks to duck. As an afterthought, he decides to play the ramp over the keeper and that's that. Doesn't make the contact as he would have liked and ends up hitting it in the air to offer an easy catch to Dickwella. So, to add to the list of Rahim and Haque, who missed out getting to their milestones, add Mahmudullah, who is left stranded 17 runs short of the triple figure mark. The hosts finish on 513.

Dimuth Karunaratnec Imrul Kayes b Mehidy Hasan 0 9 0 0 0
2.3
M Hasan to D Karunaratne, OUT! Early strike for the hosts! All through yesterday, Sri Lanka were struggling to get a wicket and here are the hosts, they strike off the 15th ball of the innings. Floated outside off, Karunaratne shouldn't be playing away from his body on this track. He does so and pays the price. He gets his front leg out of the way and then hangs his bat out at that tamely. The ball takes the outside edge and goes to the right of Kayes at first slip. He reacts well and takes it nicely. Staying alert helps. You have to credit Mahmudullah's captaincy here. He brought on the off spinner to bowl to the left-hander after just one over from Rahman and it has worked for his side. The Lankan southpaw bags a duck in his first Test of 2018, after having a stellar 2017.
Kusal Mendisc Mushfiqur Rahim b Taijul Islam 196 327 22 2 59.94
104.3
T Islam to Mendis, NO DOUBLE TON! Mendis gets OUT in an attempt to get to his landmark in a stylish way. Is this a cursed game? After Mominul Haque and Dhananjaya de Silva, now Kusal Mendis misses out on a double hundred. Taijul floats it up but keeps it on a length. Mendis comes down and looks to go big over the on side. Ends up getting a top edge and the ball goes miles in the air. Mushfiqur Rahim runs to his right from mid on and takes a fine catch diving forward after running backwards. Remember, these aren't easy ones. The partnership worth 107 is broken. The youngster was given a couple of chances and he has made good use of them. This is the second time he has been dismissed in the 190s. The tourists are still behind by 98 runs.
Dhananjaya de Silvac Liton Das b Mustafizur Rahman 173 229 21 1 75.55
82.5
M Rahman to Silva, OUT! Top edge and it's taken! A wicket against the run of play, the second new ball doing the trick, a rash approach. You call it what you want. To be honest, de Silva who was fluent all throughout his innings, looked a bit overconfident after the lunch break. Rahman drops it on a length and angles it away outside off. Dhananjaya stands tall and looks to pull it away but gets hurried on due to the zip extracted by the new ball. Gets a healthy top edge that skies straight up in the air. Liton Das calls for it, runs in front towards point and takes it. Even Rahman goes for it but seeing the keeper charging in, he aborts. Finally, finally Bangladesh have struck and have put an end to a marathon partnership of 308 runs. Sri Lanka still trail by 205 runs.
Roshen Silvac Liton Das b Mehidy Hasan 109 230 6 1 47.39
155.4
M Hasan to Silva, OUT! STOP THE PRESS! Mehidy Hasan provides the breakthrough for the hosts. All this while, he was getting significant purchase when he was landing it outside off but not so if he ventured closer to the stumps. Perhaps he realised it late and as they say, better late than never. He bowls it flatter outside off on a shorter length, Silva goes back to cut it away. But the ball lands on the rough and goes straight on, taking the bottom edge on the way to the keeper. That culminates a good level-headed knock from Roshen Silva, thereby ending the 135-run association that he had with his skipper. His side is 37 runs ahead at this point. Another view could be, his wicket could be a blessing in disguise for Sri Lanka as he wasn't really looking like scoring quickly. The men to follow could take an aggressive approach here.
Dinesh Chandimal (C)b Taijul Islam 87 185 3 0 47.03
168.3
Islam to D Chandimal, OUT! Turn and spin were the talks of the town since morning and it's the one that doesn't turn does the trick. Taijul floats in an arm delivery around off and it goes on with the arm. Chandimal looks to play the drive with the turn, which was absent, and ends up getting beaten on the inside. The ball goes onto have a meeting with the woodwork behind, that stops the Lankan skipper from progressing further. Half the visiting side back in the hut after being ahead by exactly the three-figure mark.
Niroshan Dickwella (W)c Liton Das b Mehidy Hasan 62 61 9 0 101.64
179.1
Hasan to Dickwella, OUT! Mehidy strikes! Floated down the leg side, Dickwella looks to play the reverse sweep. He has to fetch it from outside the leg stump. Cannot manage to do so and ends up feathering an edge to the keeper. The bowler is as ecstatic as he would be when he picks up a fifer! Talk about living by the sword and dying by it...
Dilruwan Pereralbw b Sunzamul Islam 32 68 4 0 47.06
188.3
S Islam to Perera, OUT! Dead duck! Sri Lanka lose Perera and with him a review too! Nicely tossed up on the stumps, it skids off the deck as Perera goes back to flick it away. Misses to get hit on the pads right in front of the stumps. A loud appeal and umpire Rod Tucker raises his finger. Dilruwan still takes the review and Hawk Eye returns three reds! Sunzamul Islam opens his account in Test cricket! Sri Lanka are 26 short of a 200-run lead.
Rangana Herathlbw b Taijul Islam 24 61 1 0 39.34
199.3
T Islam to Herath, OUT! Plumb! Flighted delivery, landed around off, Rangana Herath gets down to sweep it away but misses to get hit on the pads. An appeal has been raised to which the umpire raises his finger. Herath asks his partner whether to take the DRS but gets a negative response.
Suranga Lakmalb Taijul Islam 9 21 0 0 42.86
197.3
Islam to S Lakmal, OUT! Knocked him over! Islam loops it up on the stumps, Lakmal shuffles across to send it out of Bangladesh but misses it completely. The ball sneaks through the disturb the furniture behind. Third wicket for Islam but he's not even celebrating.

21.4
L Sandakan to Iqbal, OUT! Delight for Sandakan, despair for Tamim! Nicely tossed up outside off, Iqbal lunges forward to defend. Stretches out to reach the ball and all he does is gets a thick outside edge to the keeper. Dickwella pouches it to his left and sets off the celebrations for the Sri Lankans. Haque from the other end, asks Tamim to take the review but the latter replies that he had indeed edged it. The hosts rocked back early in the second innings.
Imrul Kayesc Dinesh Chandimal b Dilruwan Perera 19 48 1 1 39.58
14.6
D Perera to Kayes, OUT! Atrocious, irresponsible, reckless - call it whatever you want. The end result is, Bangladesh lose their first. Floated up in line of the stumps, Kayes gets down to scoop it fine. Ends up getting a bottom edge to that and the ball lobs to backward square leg for the simplest of catches, which Chandimal doesn't falter taking. The 52-run stand is done and dusted. Hard to understand that shot when your team is looking to see the day off. The hosts are still 148 behind.
Mominul Haquec Dimuth Karunaratne b Dhananjaya de Silva 105 174 5 2 60.34
77.2
de Silva to Haque, OUT! The magnum opus Test match with the bat ends for Mominul Haque! Gets an almost unplayable delivery for his downfall. De Silva loops it up nicely outside off, the angle is such that the southpaw has to play that. Mominul lunges and defends but the ball turns away just a touch to grab the outside edge. Now for the other part of this dismissal. The ball passes close past the keeper's gloves. Karunaratne is alert at first slip and swoops quickly to his right and takes that with a dive. Terrific catch that. The visitors leap up in celebration as they know the value of this scalp. Take a bow, Haque. What a game he has played! Top class. He walked in when his side were 148 runs behind, walks out with his side 61 ahead.
Mushfiqur Rahimc Kusal Mendis b Rangana Herath 2 20 0 0 10
26.5
R Herath to M Rahim, OUT! What a moment in the game! The analogue clock on the ground showed local time to be 1630 yet the umpires went by the watch that they had in their hands, which meant that another over was squeezed in. And lo, the hosts lose one of the mainstays in what turns out to be the last delivery of the day. What's more, Chandimal brought Herath on to bowl this one and his move has paid off big time. The veteran tosses this one around off, Rahim gets a big stride forward to defend. The ball takes the inside edge, hits the front pad, lobs off the boot and Mendis takes a stunner at silly point. The Lankans are confidently ecstatic as they feel they have got their man. However, the dreaded finger from the umpire is not raised. Rod Tucker goes to his partner, has a longish chat with Marais Erasmus and takes it upstairs, giving the soft signal as Not Out. Time for another look, which seals the deal. It shows that the ball has hit the pad after taking the inside edge, lobbed off the boot and is in the air a bit. The man from silly point has taken a clean catch as well, concludes the TV umpire. Thus the on-field call is overturned and that means, Rahim has to walk back to the pavilion, this time 98 runs short of a ton. Also, that's STUMPS ON THE PENULTIMATE DAY!
Liton Das (W)c Dilruwan Perera b Rangana Herath 94 182 11 0 51.65
82.2
R Herath to Das, OUT! DILRUWAN TAKES A STUNNER! What a catch to send the set Das back! It is a poor shot to be frank. Herath floats it up around off, Liton gets down the track and looks to get to his milestone with a glory shot. He fails to get to the pitch of the ball and due to the little spin on the ball, he ends up skying it high in the air. Perera sidetracks from mid off and goes towards long off. Never did he take his eyes off the ball. In the end, he turned around and takes that catch with a dive. The entire Sri Lanka side comes to him to congratulate him as he sits there in disbelief. Remember, he is 35 years young! Inexplicable shot from the Bangladesh keeper this. He walks back 6 runs short of his MAIDEN Test ton.
