Dean Elgarc Peter Moor b Kyle Jarvis 31 56 5 0 55.36
21.3
K Jarvis to Elgar, OUT! Jarvis draws first blood! The bowling change has worked for Zimbabwe. Jarvis bowls this on the pads, this should have been nudged away for a single. Elgar had the same intention. But the ball stopped a touch on the track, which meant that Elgar was early into his flick. The fielder at mid-wicket, Moor, had an easy offering and he accepted it gleefully. The 72-run opening stand ends. Elgar looks disappointed with his fall and he hits the advertising board with his bat.
Aiden Markramc Brendan Taylor b Kyle Jarvis 125 204 14 2 61.27
65.3
K Jarvis to A Markram, OUT! It is a legal delivery! My word, Brendan Taylor has taken a stunner! He has done a Quinton de Kock. Superb, absolutely superb. The line is nice, just outside off and the length is fractionally short of full. Markram probably could have left it alone but the thought of the ball coming in could have tempted him to push at it. The result is an outside edge which is dying on its way towards first slip but Brendan Taylor flings himself to his right and takes it with his glove! That too, cleanly! Take a bow. Markram has to walk back dejected. He is asked to wait for a bit, as the umpires check for the overstepping but replays confirm Jarvis is fine. Markram will be utterly disappointed. He played a terrific knock, but would have wished to go in unbeaten at the break. DINNER ON DAY 1!
Hashim Amlac Peter Moor b Chris Mpofu 5 11 1 0 45.45
24.2
C Mpofu to Amla, OUT! Oh Amla, what have you done? He has thrown it away in a Test match, something that you don't associate with him. Mpofu lands it on a back of a length outside off, Amla hangs on the back foot and looks to slap it square of the wicket on the off side. All he manages is to spoon a catch towards cover-point. Moor gets to his left and pouches this easily. Mpofu cannot believe what has just happened here. He is delighted, yes, but not able to fathom the batter he has just got here. Does some strange celebration of putting something in his pocket and zipping it up. Shows that he wants to signify that he has pocketed Amla. The hosts are rocked back early.
AB de Villiers (C)c & b Chris Mpofu 53 65 5 1 81.54
46.5
Mpofu to Villiers, OUT! Another one is in Mpofu's pocket here! What a wicket this one is! De Villiers was in an attacking mode today and this shot is one of those that a batter would play only when he is looking to attack. Mpofu hurls it on a fuller length on off, de Villiers drives it back aerially. Chris gets low to his left quickly in his followthrough and takes it inches off the ground and throws the ball up in delight. Once again he celebrates by making the zipping-the-pocket action. The 96-run stand is broken. Zimbabwe making good inroads.
Temba Bavumac Brendan Taylor b Kyle Jarvis 44 72 5 0 61.11
71.3
K Jarvis to Bavuma, OUT! Zimbabwe are in this big time! Jarvis serves it just ahead of a good length and the line is just outside off. Bavuma looks tentative in playing this one and pushes at it with no footwork. The ball moves away just a bit and takes the outside edge of his bat and flies through into the waiting hands of Taylor behind. He gets down to his right to pouch that. Bavuma has perennially struggled to convert his starts and here is another instance of that. He flatters to deceive. Yet again he gets into the 40s and throws it away. Timely strike for the tourists, half the home side is back in the hut now.
Quinton de Kock (W)lbw b Graeme Cremer 24 38 4 0 63.16
77.3
Cremer to Kock, OUT! Another South African heads back to the dressing room! Cremer tosses this one around off, de Kock gets down to sweep this one but misses. The ball hits him on the front pad. This acts like a switch that sets the Zimbabweans on to appeal. The umpire slowly raises the dreaded finger yet again. De Kock talks to his partner but decides against opting for the review. My colleague reckons he should have taken it. However, it would have been futile as Ball Tracker shows three reds.
Vernon Philanderlbw b Graeme Cremer 10 15 2 0 66.67
75.5
G Cremer to Philander, OUT! Philander has to depart, taking the review with him! Cremer strikes with the wrong 'un. He serves it on off, it spins in a touch. Philander lunges forward in defense but fails to read the one that goes the other way. Ends up getting struck on the pads right in front of the stumps. The players appeal, Kettleborough takes his own sweet time before raising the dreaded finger. Vernon chats with his partner and takes it upstairs. Only an inside edge can save him at this point, but the absence of that signals his fate. South Africa are six down now.
Andile Phehlukwayonot out 4 6 1 0 66.67
Kagiso Rabadarun out (Peter Moor) 1 1 0 0 100
77.4
G Cremer to Rabada, OUT! There is the tailenders' running on display! Rabada eases this through cover-point and ambles across to the other end. He, for some reason best known to him, wants a second in spite of Phehlukwayo saying NO. The man at covers hares after the ball and returns a good flat throw to the keeper, who does the rest. The third umpire has been referred to. The replay shows that Rabada is well short. However, Taylor's technique there has to be questioned. He collected that in front of the stumps and flicked his gloves back to disturb the bails.
Keshav Maharajc Ryan Burl b Chris Mpofu 5 5 1 0 100
78.3
C Mpofu to K Maharaj, OUT! That is a good catch and South Africa are nine down! A length ball outside off, Maharaj initially looks to push at that but then tries to withdraw the bat away. Is late and the ball flies off the outside edge towards gully where Ryan Burl dives to his left and takes a neat catch. What a wonderful fielding display by Zimbabwe!

Hamilton Masakadzalbw b Morne Morkel 0 1 0 0 0
0.1
M Morkel to Masakadza, OUT! Hamilton is gone first ball! Dream start for South Africa on the field. Morne has his tail fired up. He pitches this on a length outside off and then gets it to jag back in. Masakadza is late in getting his bat down and is hit on the pads. Morne appeals and even before he could turn behind and look, umpire Paul Reiffel raises his finger! The two batsmen have a long chat and eventually Masakadza signals for the review. No use. Plumb in front. A golden duck for the big Ham.
Chamu Chibhabhac Temba Bavuma b Morne Morkel 6 19 1 0 31.58
6.2
M Morkel to C Chibhabha, OUT! Edged and taken! The Giraffe strikes again! Chibhabha never looked comfortable in his short stay at the crease and eventually has been relieved. The length is not that full but Chibhabha still looks to drive. As a result, the ball hits him high on the bat and flies off the outside edge. Safe as houses is that slip cordon and Temba Bavuma takes his over his head at third slip. The umpires want to check for the overstepping and one replay angle does seem to indicate that Morne might have landed on the line but it is too close to call and he rules it in favour of the bowler. Two down Zimbabwe, still 149 more needed to avoid the follow-on.
Craig Ervinelbw b Vernon Philander 4 31 1 0 12.9
10.4
V Philander to Ervine, OUT! The margin of that call is very close. Umpire's call. On the impact and the hitting. But Ervine has to go. It looked dead and plumb to the naked eye, though technology does not show it that close. Philander pitches this on a length and gets it to nip back in. Ervine looks to flick but once again he falls over and is hit on the pads. Philander runs towards the keeper in joy at first and then realizes that he has to appeal as well. Umpire Reiffel is just waiting for someone to appeal and up he raises his finger. Ervine is downcast, walks towards Burl and then signals for the review. Pitching in line, says Hawk Eye, impact just around leg, not totally, but there is some impact and then going on to clip the leg stump. Zimbabwe do not lose a review as it was umpire's call but they are 4 down now. Still 146 runs more needed to avoid the follow-on.
Brendan Taylor (W)c AB de Villiers b Morne Morkel 0 5 0 0 0
8.1
M Morkel to Taylor, OUT! It is a procession out there now. Morne is on fire, is an understatement. He has got the Zimbabweans all over the place. Bowling short, length, good length, back of a length and now full as well. You tell what you want from the menu. This one is pitched right up, outside off and Taylor does not do much wrong. He gets across a touch, thinks he has covered the line but then the ball moves away at the last moment and takes the outside edge. Right into AB de Villiers' gloves.
Ryan Burlb Morne Morkel 16 35 3 0 45.71
19.1
M Morkel to R Burl, OUT! Knocks the off stump out! The change of angle does the trick! Half the side back in the hut for Zimbabwe. Morkel comes round the wicket and lands it on a length around off, the ball comes in with the angle. Burl tries to push at it but leaves a gap between bat and pad in doing so. The ball sneaks through it and hits the top of off stump. Fourth wicket for Morkel and an early one for South Africa today. This is the start that the tourists would have dreaded today.
Kyle Jarvisc AB de Villiers b Andile Phehlukwayo 23 50 3 0 46
25.5
A Phehlukwayo to Jarvis, OUT! Another one bites the dust! Phehlukwayo lands it on a length just outside off, Jarvis is forced into playing that on account of the line of the ball. All he does is get an edge to the ball, that nips away a touch after pitching. De Villiers behind the wickets gets a dolly and that's his 200th CATCH IN TESTS. Pouches it and throws it up in joy. Zimbabwe trail by 254 runs, 105 runs still behind from avoiding the follow on.
Sikandar Razac AB de Villiers b Morne Morkel 0 4 0 0 0
19.5
M Morkel to Raza, OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! 7th FIVE-FER FOR MORKEL in Tests! Raza walks back for a duck. Morkel lands it on a length on off, shapes away a touch. Raza tries to defend but is undone by the swing. He gets a faint outside edge to de Villiers who takes it and appeals. The umpire raises his finger and Sikandar starts walking back. This is a big wicket, considering the fact that his two previous Test scores were 80 or more. Zimbabwe trail by 273.
Peter Moorb Andile Phehlukwayo 9 19 1 0 47.37
29.1
A Phehlukwayo to Moor, OUT! Peter Moor, the last recognized batter is on his way now. Length ball just outside off, Moor plays down the wrong line. The delivery is angled in and Moor plays for a straighter one. Ends up chopping it on. The ball hits the top of the middle stump to send the bails flying. Phehlukwayo is delighted as he picks up his second. One of the bails is broken as well!
Graeme Cremer (C)c AB de Villiers b Kagiso Rabada 2 10 0 0 20
28.4
K Rabada to Cremer, OUT! This is what pace can do for you. It is hurled at 141 kph outside off, it is a touch fuller than good length. The ball keeps coming in with the angle and gets Cremer into a tangle. He is forced to play at that and only manages a thin nick through to de Villiers, who is too good to miss these. Zimbabwe going down pretty quickly here.
Chris Mpofuc Temba Bavuma b Kagiso Rabada 0 4 0 0 0
30.1
K Rabada to C Mpofu, OUT! That's it! ZIMBABWE FOLD OUT FOR 68, WITH A TRAIL OF 241 RUNS! Rabada lands it on a length outside off, Mpofu doesn't know what to do with that. Hangs his bat out at that and only manages to get a thick edge. The ball flies towards gully, where Bavuma gets to his right and snaffles it up.

Hamilton Masakadzac AB de Villiers b Keshav Maharaj 13 34 1 1 38.24
34.2
K Maharaj to Masakadza, OUT! That is a goodie! This one has to be credited to the bowler. Plenty of flight, plenty of guile, plenty of drift, plenty of turn, plenty of edge and to cap it off, an excellent catch! Great bowling from the left-arm spinner. Maharaj tosses this one around off and brings Masakadza forward who looks to push at it. But the ball then lands and drifts away, beating Hamilton but taking the outside edge. It is never easy to take close-in catches, especially when you are not the regular wicket-keeper. AB de Villiers is not even a regular player these days for South Africa in Tests. But he takes it as though he is the senior manager of a project in office and has been working on it for ages. Superb stuff. Not Masakadza's entire fault, here it is the Maharaj-de Villiers combo.
Chamu Chibhabhac AB de Villiers b Kagiso Rabada 15 54 2 0 27.78
17.2
K Rabada to Chibhabha, OUT! Rabada draws first blood! Never, I repeat, never during his 54-ball stay at the crease, did Chamu Chibhabha look comfortable. He was hopping and missing the balls, stood his ground and missed them, awkwardly played at a couple of ones and edged some too. But this time, he edges one and it goes where the Proteas want it to. Rabada serves it on a length just outside off, Chibhabha should have just let it be. Instead he has a feel for it and gets the faintest of nicks to end his stay. De Villiers accepts his 5th catch in the game and the Proteas are away. The trail stands at 187 at this moment, a good period of resistance ends.
Craig Ervinelbw b Andile Phehlukwayo 23 58 2 1 39.66
27.2
A Phehlukwayo to Ervine, OUT! Phehlukwayo strikes! He runs in from over the wicket and spears it full around off and middle. Ervine looks to defend that but plays the wrong line. He gets struck adjacent to the stumps. The players appeal and the umpire gives him the marching orders. As plumb as it gets, shows the Hawk Eye too. One brings two, they say. Proved.
Brendan Taylor (W)c Hashim Amla b Keshav Maharaj 16 36 3 0 44.44
26.6
K Maharaj to Taylor, OUT! 'Brendan Taylor is convinced he is out,' says Michael Holding on air as the giant screen takes ages to flash the final decision. In the end, Reiffel the on-field umpire, has been given the message in his earpiece and he raises the dreaded finger. What happened here? Here we go... Maharaj tosses this one just outside off, Brendan gets down to play the reverse sweep. He gets the bottom edge that lobs up off his back pad and goes to the right of Amla at first slip. He does extremely well to react and take that with a dive to his right. He seems confident of taking that and claims it. The umpires in the middle converge and discuss. They take their own sweet time before going upstairs where the soft signal is OUT. Taylor meanwhile asks the fielder and begins to head to the dressing room before waiting for the confirmation. The replays aren't conclusive whether the ball has bounces just in front of Amla or he has taken it cleanly. After eventually having a look at it numerous times, the TV umpire decides to stay with the on-field call. Ends Taylor's stay at the crease.
Ryan Burlc AB de Villiers b Andile Phehlukwayo 0 4 0 0 0
29.1
A Phehlukwayo to Burl, OUT! What is happening out there? The wickets are falling in quick succession and the procession from the batters seems as if there's something more interesting available in the dressing room. Phehlukwayo comes round the wicket and delivers this on a length angling in. The ball moves away just a touch. Burl has to play at that but he just manages a thick outside edge straight to de Villiers behind, who doesn't miss this. Half the Zimbabwean side back in the hut with the trail showing 161.
Sikandar Razac Andile Phehlukwayo b Keshav Maharaj 5 4 1 0 125
28.3
K Maharaj to S Raza, OUT! That's the end of Raza's stay at the crease. Zimbabwe crumbing yet again. This is pretty ordinary batting from Raza. He charges down the track and looks to go over the top yet again. Doesn't get entirely to the pitch of the ball and ends up slicing it towards backward point. The fielder there, Phehluklwayo, settles under that and takes it easily. Maharaj is reaping rewards by varying his flight here.
Peter Moorc AB de Villiers b Andile Phehlukwayo 1 6 0 0 16.67
31.2
A Phehlukwayo to Moor, OUT! Waste of a review from Moor. There was a noise and the third umpire would have needed conclusive evidence to overturn the on-field umpire's call. There is evidence. But to support the call. On a length outside off, Moor looks to defend but the ball just comes back in a touch. He is beaten due to the late movement and there is some sound as the ball goes past the inside edge. AB de Villiers collects and straightaway throws the ball up in the air in jubilation while Phehlukwayo makes the customary appeal. It is initially not given though but after taking a considerably long time, umpire Kettleborough raises his finger. Slow death, as they day. But Moor does not agree. He straightaway takes the review but when it is taken upstairs, Snickometer does not support his call. Massive spike when the ball passes the bat. Yet another wicket for Andile. Yet another catch for de Villiers. Yet another dismal moment for Zimbabwe. Still 154 runs needed to make their neighbours bat again.
Graeme Cremer (C)not out 18 37 4 0 48.65
Kyle Jarvisb Vernon Philander 5 10 1 0 50

V Philander to K Jarvis, OUT! Timber! This is unplayable bowling for a top order batsman, let alone a lower order one. Pretty much similar to the previous ball. But the result is totally different. The ball is pitched on a good length again, outside off and Jarvis looks to drive once more, as he attempted on the previous one. However, while the ball deviated away off the seam on ball number 4, this one jags back. One more similarity is that the ball missed the outside edge on both deliveries. This one rattled the stumps. Just 2 wickets away are South Africa.
Chris Mpofub Keshav Maharaj 0 3 0 0 0

K Maharaj to Mpofu, OUT! Number 9 down. Flighted on middle, Mpofu looks to drive but actually misses a full toss. The ball sneaks beneath his bat and hits the stumps.
Blessing Muzarabanib Keshav Maharaj 10 9 1 1 111.11
42.3
K Maharaj to Muzarabani, OUT! 4-day Test ends in 2 days! Third 5-wicket haul for Maharaj and it has been a great piece of bowling, however non-competitive the opposition might be. He bowls this a bit flatter as compared to the previous two deliveries and Muzarabani continues his wild swing. Misses once again but this time, the ball hits the off stump. VICTORY FOR SA BY AN INNINGS AND 120 RUNS!
