Taieri’s 22-year-old batsman Callum Egen has created a world record by smashing 381 not out in a 40-over third grade match against Kaikorai at Brockville, in New Zealand.

According to New Zealand Herald, Taeri went on to pile up a mammoth 510 for three. Egen smashed a record 43 sixes and 20 fours, scoring as many as 338 runs in boundaries itself. He added 250 runs with his brother Gareth, who scored only 38.

Egen told the Otago Daily Times, “I don’t know if you can really explain it, to be fair. I was just hitting a pretty good ball and thought I’d run the risk of seeing how well I could go and it sort of came off.”

The report added that India’s Nikhilesh Surendran tops the list of scoring the most in about 300 or more in minor limited-overs cricket matches. Surendran scored 334 not out for St John’s Church Junior College against the Brilliant Grammar School in Hyderabad in 2008-09.

Egen’s previous highest score was 138 and he says he has “now I’ve almost tripled it”. The opening batsman smashed most of his 43 sixes in the “cow corner”. He said, “The old hockey player swing as they call it.”

“There was no chance of retiring,” he concluded.
