On April 18, 2008, the Indian Premier League (IPL) was born with a glitzy opening ceremony and some cricketing fireworks at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. In a sport that has traditionally seen nations battle one another, a club-based concept was a novelty mixed with the entertainment of T20 cricket.
