An emotional Michael Clarke addressed the media in the wake of the unfortunate demise of his friend and colleague Phillip Hughes due to a freak injury sustained during a Sheffield Shield match between South Australia and New South Wales. Hughes was struck on the back of the head, attempting a pull shot to a Sean Abbot bouncer. He was momentarily dazed after being struck before falling face-first onto the ground.

He was rushed to the hospital following the blow and battled for his life for over two days but unfortunately failed to regain consciousness. Australian players David Warner, Brad Haddin and Nathan Lyon were present on the ground at the time of the injury. The incident has affected the entire Austalian team deeply.
