Dr. RN Baba, father of India’s ICC Under-19 World Cup quarter-final match winner, Baba Aparajith, has been having a frantic and wild schedule for the past few weeks. The passionate media in-charge at Uppal Stadium, who is popularly known as ‘Doc’, has been waking up at half past four o’clock in the morning every match day.
On Sunday morning, as India reached the target set by Australia to win the ICC Under-19 World Cup, Doc was seen moving nearer to the television screen. Even when legends like Wasim Akram and Ian Chappell showered praises on the young cricketer, Doc made sure the disappointment on his son’s face, to get dismissed in the final of the World Cup, didn’t affect him.
Apart from Aparajith’s father, his twin brother Baba Indrajith, older to him by 40 minutes, was glued to the television screen.
“He was in the probables but just missed out. Like his brother he’s an all-rounder too. And scored loads of runs in the U-19 circuit last season,” Dr. Baba was quoted as saying by Indian Express.
“Inder is like the man of the house. Everyone listens to him. And he’s been on the phone every day telling Appar what exactly he needs to be doing. Both are mature boys, but Inder takes everything in his stride. He’s doing very well for the Tamil Nadu juniors,” Dr. Baba added.
It was the moment of glory, not only for the Baba family, but also for the whole nation, as the Under-19 team lifted the Champions trophy. However, one must not forget, it was Aparajith’s match-winning performance in the quarter-finals against Pakistan, which made sure that India reached this stage.
