While the rain has done its bit in the ongoing World Cup, on Tuesday in Manchester it rained but in sixes as Eoin Morgan slammed 17 sixes to become the batsman with the most numbers of sixes in an ODI innings.
Morgan took the Afghanistan bowling attack to the cleaners in the 24th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 at Old Trafford.
Morgan surpassed Rohit Sharma, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers, all of whom, had hit 16 sixes in an innings to top the chart of the most sixes for a batsmen in an innings.

Morgan also became the batsman with most number of sixes in a World Cup match, surpassing Gayle, who had hit 16 sixes against Zimbabwe during his double hundred in the previous edition of the World Cup.
The England skipper, who was coming into this match following a back spasm, hammered 148 runs off 71 balls as England scored 397/6 against the Gulbadin Naib-led side.

Morgan walked in to bat in the 30th over after the fall of Jonny Bairstow, who missed out on a hundred by 10 runs.
In addition to his 17 sixes, Morgan hit 4 fours as he scored as many as 118 of his 148 runs in fours and sixes. Such was Morgan’s onslaught that even Rashid Khan, Afghanistan’s premier spinner, went for 110 runs in his nine overs. The duo of Morgan and Root added 189 runs from 101 balls, with 17 sixes, all of which came from Morgan’s bat.
