Suresh Raina has scored over 400 runs in every edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) till date. However, he is currently languishing on 346 runs in IPL 2015. It would not be too much of an exaggeration to call Suresh Raina an IPL legend. He has scored by far the most runs in the tournament s history. He has never missed a game for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), as the commentators love to keep reminding us. But perhaps the most valuable thing about Raina is that he performs in big matches. Raina top-scored for CSK in the IPL 2008 final with a crucial 43, though CSK lost off the final ball to Rajasthan Royals (RR). He scored 57 not out in the IPL 2010 final against Mumbai Indians (MI), which CSK won. His unbeaten 73 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2011 Qualifier helped CSK to the final, where they won again. Raina had not scored a single half-century in IPL 2012 till the final, where he belted an unbeaten 73. He was thwarted by Manvinder Bisla, as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won in the final over. Raina s performance against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in IPL 2014 Qualifier 2 is one that will go down in history as perhaps the greatest innings in a losing cause; chasing 227, Raina hit 87 off 25 balls with 12 fours and six sixes, though his team let him down and CSK lost by 24 runs. What should be noted is that the two times Raina failed in the IPL 2009 semi-final and the IPL 2013 Final CSK did not get close to winning. Raina s performances in big matches have earned him a reputation of being one of the most dangerous players in the Playoff stage. He has not yet scored 400 runs in IPL 2015.
