The second Twenty20 (T20) international between South Africa and Australia ended quite dramatically. After winning the toss, Australia invited South Africa to bat and they scored a good total of 204 with their skipper being highest scorer from their side, scoring 79 and a cameo by David Miller in the end with 18-ball 33. In return, Australia began very badly as they lost their three wickets in powperplay. But later, David Warner and Glenn Maxwell took charge and started plundering all over. The duo added 161 runs together and in the end James Faulkner and Mitchell Marsh confirmed their victory in the last ball. Australia won this match by five wickets and in the course of this thrilling match many records were set and broken. 1.  This was the 16th T20I between South Africa and Australia, which is the most number of matches played between any two teams in this format of the game.

 

2.  South Africa scored 62 in their powerplay. This is the highest score by them against Australia in their first six overs of a T20I.

 

3.  Quinton de Kock once again got out in his 40s after scoring 44 in this match. This was his sixth score in 40s in T20Is. Thus he now holds the joint-second highest record for scores in 40s. Martin Guptill tops the list with 8, while Eoin Morgan and Hashim Amla have 6 each.

 

4.  South African skipper Faf du Plessis scored 79 and became the second highest run getter as captain in T20Is with 901 in just 26 innings. He is behind MS Dhoni who has 932 runs in 53 innings.

 

5.  With this half-century, Du Plessis has taken his tally to seven fifties as captain — the most by any captain in T20Is. He went past Kumar Sangakkara’s record of six fifties as captain.

 

6.  David Warner scored 77 and went past 1500 runs in T20Is. He is now the seventh batsman to do so in T20Is and first from Australia.

 

7.  South Africa’s total of 204 is the highest by them against Australia in T20Is.

 

8.  Glenn Maxwell and Warner added 161 runs together which is now the highest partnership from any Australian pair in T20Is and fourth highest overall.

 

9.  Maxwell and Warner scored 75 and 77 respectively. This is the second instance of two batsman of the same team scoring 75 or more in an innings of a T20I.

 

10.  Australia chased down the huge total of 205. This is their highest successful chase in the history of T20Is.

 

11.  David Wiese conceded 58 runs from his four overs. This is the second most expensive spell of four overs bowled by any bowler against Australia and second most expensive spell by a South African bowler against any opposition.

 

12.  Du Plessis’ 79 is the highest individual score by a South African batsman against Australia in a losing cause in T20Is.

 

13.  Josh Hazlewood conceded 50 runs in his four overs. This was the most expensive spell of four overs bowled by any Australian bowler against South Africa in T20Is.
