On Day 1, it was England’s captain Alastair Cook and on Day 2, it is all about their future Test skipper Joe Root. The first day of the second Test between England and Pakistan at Old Trafford ended with the score of 314 with the loss of four wickets and Root being unbeaten on 141.
Despite Root’s brilliance, Cook’s hundred, his 29th (equalling Don Bradman) stole the spotlight. Root ensured on Day 2, the spotlight fell on him. He became the first batsman from England since 1954 to score a double hundred at home against Pakistan. The last English cricketer to do so was Denis Compton, who made 278 at Trent Bridge. Joe Root's is just the 6th 200 at Old Trafford.
This ground has seen the fewest number of 200s at any major Test grounds in England#EngvPak— Mohandas Menon (@mohanstatsman) July 23, 2016
