Australian seamer Gurinder Sandhu, who made his international debut against India in January 2015, thanked Indian pacer Zaheer Khan for the learning he received from the latter in the Delhi Daredevils (DD) camp in the eighth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The 21-year-old was fetched by DD for Rs 1.7 crores in the auction. The pacer was excited about his maiden IPL stint as he would be sharing the dressing room with pace veteran Zaheer.
Sandhu had then said: “He has been a great exponent of reverse swing. Hopefully, I will get to learn the art of reversing from him as it will be a good two months that we will be there for the Daredevils. Also I would want to know about what kind of homework does he do about opposition batsmen. People say that he is a master in reading a batsman’s mind and it won’t be a bad idea to get to peek into his brain.”
DD didn’t have a good run in this year’s IPL but Sandhu had an enriching experience as he got to play alongside Zaheer and also learn from him. Zaheer, who too was picked by DD in the auction, is one of India’s greatest fast bowlers who played a major role in India’s rise to dominance in the previous decade and winning the World Cup 2011. Zaheer also played the role of a mentor to the side and the young bowlers of DD benefitted from the same.
Sandhu took to Twitter to thank Zaheer for helping him out and called him a legend.
Thanks @ImZaheer for talking to me about your skills and how you play the game. I have learnt a lot, you’re a legend bhai #respect
