‘Salman Khan should play my role if ever a biopic is made on my life’, says Shoaib Akhtar

Former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar, who has turned into a cricket expert and commentator these days, has expressed a surprising desire. The express fast bowler, who was also known as ‘Rawalpindi Express’ for his sheer pace, has said that if ever a biopic on his life is made in Bollywood, superstar Salman Khan should play his role. Akhtar’s statement comes in the wake of Salman’s latest release ‘Sultan’, which opened on the festival of Eid to blockbuster reviews. “I know that is the trend these days, but I am no one to decide that. If people think that my life is interesting and inspiring, then they can make a movie out of it. If not, then let it be. It is for fans and filmmakers to decide,” Akhtar was quoted as saying by IANS. If so happens, Akhtar is ready with his preference. “I’d like to see Salman Khan playing my role in the biopic, if that happens,” said the former cricketer. It is notable here that Akhtar himself has received offers to work in Bollywood in the past; most noteworthy being an offer from veteran film-maker Mahesh Bhatt to reprise the title role in his 2005 release ‘Gangster’. However, Akhtar had turned down the offer back then.

Even as the biopics might be in trend at the moment with Azhar being out and MS Dhoni: The Untold Story in the pipeline, Akhtar will have to bide his time. For now,  he will make an appearance on the small screen by judging an upcoming comedy show on a leading channel with Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh.
