So that’s it. A no-match really. Parthiv had started things off, then Viko was dropped twice, and in the end, there were some firecrackers from Yuvi to finish things off in style.

Nadeem pitches one outside leg-stump, and down goes Yuvi on his knees! A six over square-leg!

 

 

 

Yuvraj has his revenge! Shami dispatched over a static long-on!

 

Shami on. DK is trying to delay the inevitable as much as possible.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And RCB march on. That 20-run over has taken the match completely away from DD.

 

 

This over has possibly killed the match. Yuvi stepped out, Rahul dropped short, and Yuvi sort of semi-pulled it over fine-leg. Six more!

 

This time over extra-cover! Another six!

 

Straight goes Viko! Six!

 

Neesham has been all over the place today. 42 from 36 now.

 

 

Now Yuvi goes for it. A six over fine-leg. The RCB hundred comes up.

 

 

 

Neesham’s nightmare continues. The ball has vanished over the extra-cover boundary.

 

First Neesh, then Mayank. DD is doing everything to hand over the match to RCB.

 

 

Dropped again! Mayank Agarwal this time! Viko hit that one rather flat stroke, and Mayank drops it at deep point!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dropped! Neesham! Viko couldn’t keep the flick down, and Neesham has put down an absolute dolly from waist-height.

 

This is looking too easy for RCB now. They’re simply winning in a canter. 60 from 48.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rahul doesn’t seem to have any impact on the duo. Yuvi has looked decent after that six. That over from Shami may actually have done good to him.

 

 

Now Yuvi middles it. Rahul bowls a tad overpitch, and the southpaw hits him over mid-wicket for six.

 

What a good over from Shami. He was fast, got awkward bounce, and troubled Yuvi for most of it. Brilliant stuff.

 

 

Shami bowls a slower one, and Yuvraj slices; the ball falls between third-man and deep third-man. Yuvraj is living dangerously here.

 

Shami bounces to have Yuvraj in trouble. The ball still takes the edge and rushes to the fence.

 

 

 

 

 

And Parthiv gives in. Had that connected it may have landed out of Sharjah, but he has missed it completely. Rahul Sharma is elated.

A tidy over from Nadeem. DD can do with more of these, but more importantly, they need to break through: these two are taking the match away from them.

 

 

Finally a decent over for DD from… surprise, surprise… JPD. DD has been a one-man army today. He has been outstanding both bat and ball.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Spin doesn’t work either. Parthiv is looking murderous out there. Viko’s presence, of course, matters. At present it’s currently upperhand for RCB.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Patty steps out against Nadeem, and sends the ball over deep mid-wicket for another six! He is looking ominous out there.

 

Yet another ordinary over from Parnell. Even without Viko opening up, Patty seems to mean business. DD needs to break this partnership.

Thick edge from Viko, the ball flies towards third-man, and it’s a four. Seems to be RCB’s day…

There you, Patty is in ominous form tonight! Take that, Shami! Patty steps out and swats him over mid-off for four more!

 

And Patty goes downtown! Made room, and dispatched the ball in style past mid-on! FOUR!

 

Things are warming up here. Parthiv looks settled, and Viko has started off brilliantly. Let us see.

Kohli comes to party. Nice leg-glance past a flying DK. Ball races to the boundary. He continues from the ICC World T20 final.

 

 

And Maddo falls! Shami bounces, Maddo hooks, the ball kisses the gloves, and DK does the resat. DD draws first blood!

JP had started off well, but Maddo spoiled his rhythm with a nice stroke. Still, a tidy over by the man who has just changed the course of the DD innings.

 

 

Maddinson goes big! Steps out and creams it over extra-cover! Straight out of EA Sports Cricket 07, that!

And JP finishes things off in style. That was terrible bowling from Dinda (who, incidentally, brought up his fifty), and JP took full advantage. They managed 44 from the last 3 overs.

Humongous six from JP! A huge swipe off Dinda that landed into the stands over deep mid-wicket!

 

Full-toss on off-stump. You can’t get things easier than that. Ross simply creams it through point for four.

 

Those two edges off Ross’ bat helped DD’s cause. JP finished it off with another four. They are approaching the 150-mark now.

Where was Chahal hiding all these years? He doesn’t look like a rookie at all! Leg-breaks, top-spins, googlies, the entire package. What an over!

Decent bowling from Aaron. He bowled two wides, but barring that he bowled a nice line and length, cramping the batsmen for room. The thing you have been waiting for, the strategic timeout, is there now. What fun.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Did ViKo overbowl Albie? VIjay and JP have upped the tempo slightly. RCB still hold the controls, but DD will certainly want to get back into the match. Meanwhile, the Powerplay has come to an end.

Vijay leg-glances, Starc misfields, and it’s a much-awaited boundary.

 

Wicket-maiden for Aaron! After the dismissal in the first ball he kept JP on a leash, not letting things slide away. Vijay is the key batsman here; he needs to hang around till the 15th over or so.

 

 

That’s two golden ducks for DD.

A nothing ball from Aaron there, but an equally inept effort from Tiwary. The ball was going harmlessly down leg but Tiwary chased it, only managing to play it into Parthiv’s gloves. Aaron strikes first ball!

What an excellent over from Albie there! He moved the ball around in dry Sharjah, beating the edge every now and then, and getting DK’s edge.

 

 

Big, big wicket this for RCB. The DD captain had walked out; he played one from AB that left him slightly, bounced, and took a faint edge. DK walked.

That had to come. Mayank had been looking a tad desperate, throwing his bat at everything. Of course, it isn’t the wisest thing to do to Starc. The ball came too quickly to him, and ViKo took an easy catch.

It seems the ball has been lost…

 

Starc pitches up, Vijay simply flicks the ball over square-leg into the stands. No, I am not having memories of Viv Richards off Mike Hendrick.

 

Morkel has provided nice support to Starc here. Mayank has looked a bit desperate and had even gone for a big stroke; the ball fell just short of mid-on. The batsmen scampered for a single, but RCB is the better side after two overs.

 

 

Here’s Johannes Albertus, er, Albie…

 

A decent start from Starc. He did not start off well, bowling wide outside the off-stump. When he brought one in, Mayank had shuffled across the line for a single. He found his line towards the end of the over and put Vijay on a leash of sorts.

Both the teams have strong batting units, and will be looking to pile up huge scores in their first IPL 2014 outing.  Bangalore have a star-studded line-up and have kept the top order core of Chis Gayle, Ab de Villiers and their captain Virat Kohli. Some of the key batsmen for Delhi in the batting department are Murali Vijay, JP Duminy and Ross Taylor. These three should be fixtures in the line-up.

 

With Pietersen out, Quinton de Kock might just get a game with Jimmy Neesham being used as the all-rounder lower down the order. And, in the bowling, Delhi would mainly bank on their Indian roster. Mohammed Shami will lead the way and Jaydev Unadkat may also come in. Shahbaz Nadeem would continue the spinning duties as he has had a successful time with Delhi in the past. And, to help him out, there would be Rahul Sharma. Manoj Tiwary and Saurabh Tiwary will be crucial in the batting order.

 

I am Abhishek Mukherjee and will take you through this contest. Of course, it is just the second game of the season, so there is plenty of excitement and one is more interested to see how well the teams play this season with a revamped roster.
