Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live cricket blog of the third day’s play in the ongoing second Ashes 2015 Test at Lord’s between England and Australia. This is Devarchit Varma and I will be bringing you the live cricket scores and updates of the match. England are in a precarious position of 85 for 4 and they trail by a huge margin of 481 runs. Alastair Cook as unbeaten on 21, accompanied by all-rounder Ben Stokes on 38 as England were looking to recover after their top order was blown away. Mitchell Johnson was the pick among the bowlers for Australia on the second day as he returned with the figures of 6-3-16-2. Australia are ahead by 362 runs, and another 100 runs will be suffice, I reckon. It has been a commendable performance from them and England will have to bat out of their skins to save this Test. Signing off for today, here is Nikhil Popat’s final report of the 3rd Day in 2nd Ashes 2015 Test.

LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA (2nd Inns) 108/0 in Overs 26: Another excellent day ends for Australia as they continue to make giant strides towards leveling this series. They are ahead by 362 runs and both Warner and Rogers are well set for big scores. BATTING: Chris Rogers 44 (72), David Warner 60 (84)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA (2nd Inns) 92/0 in Overs 23: David Warner has been told twice by Kumar Dharmasena not to run on the pitch, but that is a different matter. The Aussie opener has finally got the runs that were needed off him. He has completed a fine half-century and Australia will be relieved with Warner finally making a mark. BATTING: Chris Rogers 39 (66), David Warner 52 (72)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA (2nd Inns) 74/0 in Overs 20: It has turned dark at Lord’s and the lights are on. Australia have taken their lead to 328, a fine job done by their openers. About six more overs left for stumps. BATTING: Chris Rogers 37 (57), David Warner 36 (63)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA (2nd Inns) 62/0 in Overs 17: A dull session at Lord’s as neither of the sides are pushing hard at the moment. Australia are happy collecting singles and doubles and those occasional boundaries. On England’s part, they are just trying to get a breakthrough but do not look like making one anytime soon. Moeen and Wood in operation right now. Australia lead by 317. BATTING: Chris Rogers 31 (50), David Warner 31 (52)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA (2nd Inns) 50/0 in Overs 12: Australian openers have once again provided a steady start and their lead has surged past 300. England have failed to strike with the new ball, something which Australia managed always. BATTING: Chris Rogers 22 (37), David Warner 27 (35)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA (2nd Inns) 37/0 in Overs 8: David Warner is starting to find his timing here again. Alastair Cook brings on Moeen Ali, Warner is happy to play him out and ends the over with a boundary. Australia have taken their lead to 291 runs. BATTING: Chris Rogers 21 (28), David Warner 15 (26)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA (2nd Inns) 22/0 in Overs 5: James Anderson is trying a lot of short stuff but it is not doing any good to him. Australia have taken their lead to 276 runs. BATTING: Chris Rogers 15 (21), David Warner 6 (10)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA (2nd Inns) 11/0 in Overs 3: Rogers the man in form hits a four to Anderson straight down the ground for a four. Warner comes on the strike and an edge goes right through Adam Lyth’s hands. Opportunity missed, that too  a big one. Australia lead by 265. BATTING: Chris Rogers 6 (10), David Warner 4 (8)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA (2nd Inns) 2/0 in Overs 2: Stuart Broad comes on from the Nursery End. Warner takes the strike. Interestingly, Warner averages more than 50 in the second innings. The left-hander plays a loose stroke on the leg side in the air, and the ball falls short of the man at square leg. Good, slow ball from Broad. BATTING: Chris Rogers 2 (6), David Warner 0 (6)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA (2nd Inns) 2/0 in Over 1: James Anderson begins the attack for England and Chris Rogers takes the strike. Stuart Broad is warming up, he will attack from the other end. BATTING: Chris Rogers 2 (6), David Warner 0 (0)

England have walked out quite energetically on the field, and the Australian openers are following them. Time for Dave Warner to go berserk, add as many quick runs as he can to give his team the best chance.

Spare a thought for Chris Rogers, he is batting for the final time at Lord’s in his Test career.

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 312/10 in Overs 90.1: The word is that Michael Clarke will not enforce the follow on, perhaps he wants to give his bowlers some rest. James Anderson has hit a boundary to start off, but Broad has fallen to Johnson. England will have to bowl, Clarke has sent off his openers. Australia take a 254-run lead. BATTING: James Anderson 6 (7)

OUT! Stuart Broad c Shaun Marsh (sub) b Mitchell Johnson 21 (44)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 306/9 in Overs 87.5: Josh Hazlewood you beauty! Mark Wood was always going to be the big wicket in the English tail and the Aussie pacer has cleaned up the right-hander. The ball was fuller, and in line of the off-stump, which was eventually knocked out. England trail by 260 runs, need 61 to avoid follow-on. BATTING: Stuart Broad 21 (38)

OUT! Mark Wood b Josh Hazlewood 4 (7)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 294/8 in Overs 85.4: Josh Hazlewood strikes! England have lost Moeen Ali at a very wrong time. Hazlewood comes from over the wicket, the ball pitches in line of the middle-stump and hits the batsman right in front of the middle. Moeen reviews it, but it was wasted. Plumb! England still need 72 to avoid follow on, they trail by 272. BATTING: Stuart Broad 13 (32)

OUT! Moeen Ali lbw Josh Hazleood 39 (57)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 288/7 in Overs 84: Josh Hazlewood has completed his first over as Australia begin slightly afresh in order to earn a big lead here. For England, the first challenge will be to avoid the follow-on. BATTING:  Moeen Ali 39 (54), Stuart Broad 7 (25)

We will see you in about 20 minutes. Australia should reassess their bowling plans, they cannot afford to have few more partnerships. For England, they need runs, however they come.

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 285/7 in Overs 83: The second session of the day is over with Australia still remaining at the top because of the sheer number of runs they have bowled. This short break will serve them well, the ball is new and they will come hard on the other side when they come out for the final session. BATTING:  Moeen Ali 35 (51), Stuart Broad 2 (16)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 275/7 in Overs 82: Johnson and Starc are in operation now and Broad has faced the new ball majorly. he has been beaten several times, and it was only after 15 deliveries he was able to get off the mark. BATTING:  Moeen Ali 35 (51), Stuart Broad 2 (16)

Australia take the new ball. England trail by 295, need 95 to avoid follow-on. Mitchell Starc to bowl.

What an innings by the England captain, simply outstanding. If there is one man in this English line-up who would have dropped anchor and given them any hope, it was Cook. Cook battled hard, he kept concentrating really well for whatever time he was at the crease. Sad it ended in such a meek way. Indeed, a very special player, and this innings will always be there among his best. It is up to Moeen and the English tail to fight. New ball is one over away.

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 266/7 in Overs 78.2: WICKET!!! And this feels like a body blow to England. Cook drags one onto his wickets and he, like Stokes, misses out on a well deserved century. The English captain was on his knees as soon as he heard the ball hitting the wickets after taking the inside edge. England need exactly 100 to avoid follow on. BATTING:  Moeen Ali 24 (39)

OUT! Alastair Cook b Mitchell Marsh 96 (232)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 266/6 in Overs 78: Lyon hits Moeen on the pads in front of middle and leg, and Australia take a review. Right decision. A poor decision from Kumar Dharmasena because it was OUT, the ball was hitting the leg stump. DRS says umpires call and the technology once again shows why it is not foolproof. Australia have no reviews for the next few overs. England still behind by 300 runs.  BATTING: Alastair Cook 96 (231), Moeen Ali 24 (39)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 262/6 in Overs 77: It is not that Australia have not bowled badly, the lack of support for the bowlers has played a strong part in this innings. From both sides, not many times the bowlers have been able to hit the pads or get the edges. Australian bowlers, especially Mitchell Johnson have done all they could to get wickets. On the other hand, Cook, since he has applied himself really well, has batted for so long. He is now one hit away from a century.  BATTING: Alastair Cook 96 (231), Moeen Ali 24 (39)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 249/6 in Overs 75: England need a very strong partnership, and this is the last recognised pair for them. Australia will be hoping that the next 4-5 overs do not cost them much, as they will be itching to get the second new ball, with which they can cause more damage. Johnson and Marsh in operation at the moment. England trail by more than 300 runs. BATTING: Alastair Cook 89 (223), Moeen Ali 18 (35)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 234/6 in Overs 71: Moeen Ali has joined his battling captain in the middle and England have started looking for quick runs, I reckon they do not want to be in a situation where they are following on. Moeen has looked positive so far, and Cook is now eying a century. England trail by 332 runs, and need 132 to avoid follow on. Hazlewood and Lyon in operation now. BATTING: Alastair Cook 83 (215), Moeen Ali 13 (19)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 210/6 in Overs 65.1: A wicket was very near, Australia had sensed it. Johnson bowled his heart out and had to be taken off the attack. Nathan Lyon replaced him and boy he has struck on the first ball of this spell! The right-hander Jos Buttler is caught behind, England continue to tumble. They trail by 356 runs, need 156 more to avoid foll0w-on. BATTING: Alastair Cook 76 (199),

OUT! Jos Buttler c Peter Nevill b Nathan Lyon 13 (26)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 202/5 in Overs 64: Johnson is bowling his heart out here at Lord’s. His performance throughout today quashes all theories of him being out of form. A rare blip from Steven Smith at backward square leg as he drops a very difficult catch of the English captain, not his fault entirely because the ball was flying. Australia are doing their best to create opportunities, unlike England, who let the game drift. England trail by 365, need 165 more to avoid follow-on. BATTING: Alastair Cook 68 (193), Jos Buttler 13 (25)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 186/5 in Overs 60: Johnson is back! He bowls one outside off, good pace and Buttler gets an outside edge. Peter Nevill dived to his right and took a catch very, very low. Australia celebrated another wicket but Kumar Dharmasena wanted to have a look at it. The replays showed the ball did land in his gloves, but Nevill could do nothing to prevent it from kissing the ground. Good umpiring. Australia are not happy, especially Mitch Johnson. Right decision was made off the field. BATTING: Alastair Cook 57 (175), Jos Buttler 9 (19)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 181/5 in Overs 58: Good start by Mitch Johnson post lunch break as he tests Cook consistently on the off-stump line, and also with a few fuller deliveries on the stumps. A maiden over. BATTING: Alastair Cook 56 (173), Jos Buttler 5 (9)

Play will resume soon, the Australians are out there on the field. England need 186 more runs to avoid follow-on. Australia need some more inspired bowling performances on this Lord’s wicket.

Alastair Cook suffered a nasty blow on a rising delivery from Mitchell Johnson on his left hand elbow and he looked in tremendous pain. Hope the blow does not result in an injury for the English captain. We will be back in 40 minutes, here is Nikhil Popat’s report of the first session on Day Three at Lord’s between England and Australia.

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 181/5 in Overs 57:  Marsh saved the blushed for Australia in the first session as Australia still continue to dominate England with runs on board. England are behind by 385 more runs, and need 186 more runs to avoid the follow on. BATTING: Alastair Cook 56 (167), Jos Buttler 5 (9)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 175/5 in Overs 54.1: WICKET! Mitchell Marsh has struck a serious blow as he has denied Ben Stokes a century, which he completely deserved! A straight delivery outside off, Stokes gets his bat down to defend but an inside edge crashes into the wickets. Finally! Australia have broken this stubborn stand and boy they look delighted. Stokes and his fans are heart broken, a fantastic innings comes to an end.  Stokes added 145 runs with Cook for the fifth wicket. Jos Buttler walks in. BATTING: Alastair Cook 55 (159),

OUT! Ben Stokes b Mitchell Starc 87 (128)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 175/4 in Overs 54: There was an edge that flew between the slips in the 53rd over from Mitchell Marsh as Stokes was lucky. England will be happy with their effort so far. The deficit in the first innings is less than 400 runs now. Johnson comes back for one more burst before the lunch break. Cook and Stokes’ partnership for the fifth wicket is of 145 runs. BATTING: Alastair Cook 55 (159), Ben Stokes 87 (127)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 171/4 in Overs 53: Finally England are getting themselves back into this game on the back of an excellent partnership between Cook and Stokes. The pitch has nothing for the bowlers but still the Aussie pacers are bending their backs. Cook brings up his half-century, his 43rd in Test cricket. England also raise their 150. But, the job is far, far from done. Stokes is now nearing his century, Australia have introduced Mitchell Marsh into the bowling attack. BATTING: Alastair Cook 55 (153), Ben Stokes 87 (127)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 150/4 in Overs 48: Finally England are getting themselves back into this game on the back of an excellent partnership between Cook and Stokes. The pitch has nothing for the bowlers but still the Aussie pacers are bending their backs. Cook brings up his half-century, his 43rd in Test cricket. England also raise their 150. But, the job is far, far from done. BATTING: Alastair Cook 50 (142), Ben Stokes 71 (108)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 133/4 in Overs 43: The partnership between Cook and Stokes is of more than 100 runs, and these two have done an excellent job as far as keeping Australia at bay is concerned. Still a very long way to go, but with the sun out and Australian bowlers not getting enough swing, batting is easy. Mitchell Starc into the attack for the first time, Hazlewood is off after a long spell. BATTING: Alastair Cook 40 (123), Ben Stokes 64 (97)

Australia waste a review as Hazlewood’s delivery had pitched outside the leg stump. There was no need for Australia to review it. Stokes and Cook going strong.

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 124/4 in Overs 40: Lyon has his short leg standing far away from the batsmen, and Cook is safe when an inside edge ricochets off the front pads and falls safely. Cook then charges down the wicket and hits a four, uncharacteristic from the England captain. England trail by 442 runs. BATTING: Alastair Cook 40 (122), Ben Stokes 56 (79)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 118/4 in Overs 38: Change in the bowling attack as Australia have introduced Nathan Lyon for the first time today. They need to pick wickets else England will keep bringing down the lead. The partnership between Cook and Stokes is of 89 runs. BATTING: Alastair Cook 35 (113), Ben Stokes 56 (76)

Shane Watson is on the field since morning in place of Adam Voges, who suffered a nasty blow on his hip bone fielding at the short leg position when Nathan Lyon was in operation last night.

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 108/4 in Overs 35: Ben Stokes raises the fourth half-century with a boundary off Mitchell Johnson, and it has been a fine effort from this young man. Johnson is now attacking the wickets more, getting the ball move into the batsman. England trail by 458 runs. BATTING: Alastair Cook 28 (101), Ben Stokes 52 (70)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 104/4 in Overs 34: Mitchell Johnson is bowling from the other end and he is also not attacking the wickets much. Cook gets one short from Hazlewood and he slams it for a four towards square leg. Excellent shot! England have raised their 100. BATTING: Alastair Cook 28 (101), Ben Stokes 48 (64)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 98/4 in Overs 32: Hazlewood is bowling from over the wickets and keeping the ball close to the off stump line. Australia must know Cook will let go all of them, as he is an excellent player in that regards. Of late the England captain has started watching the ball really, really well. I reckon Hazlewood must come round the wicket and target the stumps more, make someone like Cook play. England trail by 468. BATTING: Alastair Cook 24 (95), Ben Stokes 48 (58)

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 91/4 in Overs 30: Four slips in place for Hazlewood in the first over and and outside edge flies for a four, because there was no gully. Stokes was lucky. He then pushes one on the leg side for two runs. Australia must take wickets early to keep England under the pump. Six runs off the first over in the day. BATTING: Alastair Cook 21 (85), Ben Stokes 44 (56)

The players have taken the field and Josh Hazlewood is bowling the first over.

It was another day to remember for Australia as Steven Smith became the first batsman to score a double century at Lord’s since 1938 — a feat last recorded by Bill Brown. Smith fell for 215, which propelled Australia to a massive total of 566 for 8 declared. In fact, Smith’s double century was the first by an Australian batsman since Jason Gillespie’s feat in 2006.
