Afghanistan coach Andy Moles said that his team is lagging behind in certain areas and his keen to get the squad in shape for the ICC World Cup 2015. A large squad from Afghanistan were on the tour of Australasia as part of the High Performance tour. The Afghans ended their tour defeating New Zealand’s Northern Knights by 16 runs in the 50-over format at Bay Oval.

“This tour is about giving the full number the opportunity to play in the conditions and see what it’s like. But their game sense is a bit lacking in certain areas, because they haven’t had much experience in that manner. It’s about us trying to make sure that we give them the opportunity to understand the game plans and methods that I want to put in place come the World Cup,” Moles was quoted as saying by Stuff.co.n.

“We’ve had 20 players out here, with probably five left behind in Kabul that would have been here but for fitness and the fact we’re looking at youngsters. Everybody’s played the same amount of games. When we get back, the selectors can sit down and everybody’s had a fair opportunity, so they can pick their final 15 or 18 closer to the World Cup,” he added.

Moles, who was a Kiwi coach before, was recently appointed as coach of the Afghan side after Kabir Khan stepped down. Afghanistan are will play Australia, hosts New Zealand, Scotland, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and England next year. They qualified for the World Cup in October 2013.
