England’s World Cup-winning hero, Ben Stokes, took to Instagram to thank his family members for their support in what he termed as “a summer to remember”.
Stokes played a pivotal role as the Eoin Morgan-led England registered their maiden World Cup triumph in the fifty-overs cricket in July.
The allrounder then played one of the finest Test innings, scoring an unbeaten 135, as England sealed a stunning one-wicket win over Australia in the third Ashes Test at Headingley.
“A summer to remember for a lot of things….things that would not of been possible with out the support of my amazing family, through the highs and lows you have always been there for me and I appreciate everything you all do for me…I LOVE YOU 😘 @clarey11 #Layts #Libbs,” wrote Stokes in his Instagram post.
Stokes ended Ashes with 441 runs and eight wickets and won the player of the series award for England.
Stokes had recently launched a scathing attack at ‘The Sun’ which published a story about his family tragedy on the front page of Tuesday’s edition. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had rallied around Stokes after he criticised the newspaper.
