Ashton Agar will be staying out of action for a while as he will be going through multiple surgery over a course of three to four months. His shoulder got injured in a pre-season training accident in previous week. Due to injury, Agar was ruled out of the winter series and Matador BBQs One-Day Cup between Australia ‘A’ and visitors South Africa ‘A’. In absence of Agar, Peter Handscomb will be captaining the side for the two-day First Class matches. Agar suffered an injury in same shoulder in previous year. That is the reason why he has opted for surgery right away. Former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Brad Haddin will be coaching the side for the series. ALSO READ: Ashton Agar suffers shoulder injury

Jon Holland will be replacing Ashton Agar in the side as a spinner. National selector Rod Marsh feels that the incident is unfortunate. he said, “Jon had an impressive Sheffield Shield season taking eight wickets during Victoria’s win in the final and was Victoria’s top wicket-taker at the Matador Cup, earning him the Dean Jones Medal at the end of the season. Peter Handscomb and Cameron Bancroft both have had impressive seasons and demonstrated strong leadership skills which confirms their appointments of captain and vice-captain respectively.”
