Big Bash League side Melbourne Stars have named David Hussey as their captain and all-rounder James Faulkner has been named the team’s vice-captain. Hussey takes over from Michael Clarke, who decided to pull out of the tournament this year. Speaking of his appointment, Hussey said, “It’s an interesting decision by the Melbourne Stars,” Hussey told News Corp. “James Faulkner’s going to be the vice-captain and he’s going to be a great person to bounce ideas off. I’ve also learnt from two great captains before me in Shane Warne and Cameron White. In terms of me being captain, it’s a tough one,” he added. “I’m always for never standing in the way of a younger player coming through. James Faulkner, hopefully we can work together and maybe he’s going to be a future captain of the Melbourne Stars, maybe next year or the year after,”said Hussey, according to a report at cricket.com.au.
Stars have made it to the semi-final of the tournament on four occasions, but have failed take the step that would take them to the final. But Hussey is unfazed and wants to help Stars win some silverware. “I’m really focused on helping the Melbourne Stars. I want to win some silverware. It is frustrating. We’ve been semi-finalists every year since the inception of the competition,” he said. READ: James Faulkner ‘deeply embarrassed and sorry’ after being fined and banned for 2 years
Stars have former New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming as their coach and have a few exciting stars like Kevin Pietersen and Luke Wright in their ranks. They have also signed young leg-spinner Adam Zampa this season.
Fleming, having already played alongside Hussey at Nottinghamshire, says he has a lot of respect for him. “It’s nice to have a strong Victorian presence as captain. To be working with him is quite a key component because I know him so well,” Fleming said. READ: Shane Watson vs James Faulkner: Who is the better all-rounder?
