Team India’s bowling coach Bharat Arun is likely to get a promotion is his next term as he could be elevated to the post of an assistant coach, replacing the incumbent Sanjay Bangar, suggests a report in Mumbai Mirror. Arun had joined team India’s coaching staff in 2014, along with Ravi Shastri and Bangar. While the latter continued to keep his position since then, Shastri and Arun were dropped from June 2016 to June 2017 when Anil Kumble took charge as head coach.
The exit of Kumble saw Shastri and Arun make their way back in 2017. For the first time, BCCI also handed contracts to the other members of the support staff, that saw a promotion for Bangar.
However, he is now the only member in the present staff who will not be continuing in his position. Bangar came second to Vikram Rathour in the preference list after a series of interviews conducted by the CAC to appoint the members of Shastri’s coaching staff.
Rathour, the former India opener, is set to take over the charge when India take on South Africa in the home series starting next month.
As for Bangar, multiple reports have suggested that he is on Royal Challengers Bangalore’s radar and the franchise might rope him in as its batting coach. Should Bangar join the team, he will reunite with Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

RCB’s management had recently sacked the entire coaching staff, dropping Gary Kirsten, Ashish Nehra and the rest of coaches. Mike Hesson, who was running for the head coach position of the Indian team, was roped in by RCB as their Director of Cricket. Simon Katich joined the franchise as its head coach. A call on other members of the coaching staff will be taken soon.
