West Indies’ T20 specialist Sunil Narine’s 31 off 16 coupled with a four-wicket haul sealed Dhaka Dynamites’ six-wicket win over Chittagong Vikings in a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL 2019) match on Monday.
By virtue of this win, Dynamites advance and will face the loser of Qualifier 1 between Rangpur Riders and Comilla Victorians later on Monday. Vikings meanwhile, are out of the competition. (ALSO READ: Bangladesh’s Taskin Ahmed ruled out of New Zealand tour)
Chasing 136 which was never a par score, Dynamites were off to a flier, courtesy Narine, who clobbered six boundaries and one six in his 16-ball 31. Sri Lankan batsman Upul Tharanga ensured the run-rate did not dip and brought up his half-century in quick time. Tharanga’s 51 off 43 – an innings studded with seven fours – was dismissed by Nayeem Hasan in the 14th over.
From thereon, Nurul Hasan (20*) and Kieron Pollard (7*) saw the side home as Dynamites chased down the target with 20 balls to spare. For Vikings, Khaled Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers with three for 20 in his four overs. (ALSO READ: Rangpur Riders thrash Comilla Victorians to go top)
Earlier, Mosaddek Hossain top scored with 40 as a shoddy batting display from the Vikings resulted in a below par score. Cameron Delport was the next highest scorer with 36. As many as seven players departed with single-digit scores, as Narine proved to be the architect for the Vikings’ downfall returning with exceptional figures of four for 15 in his four overs.
Brief scores: Dhaka Dynamites 136/4 in 16.4 overs (Upul Tharanga 51, Sunil Narine 31) beat Chittagong Vikings 135/8 in 20 overs (Mosaddek Hossain 40, Cameron Delport 36; Narine 4/15) by six wickets
