Chittagong Vikings came out all guns blazing and registered their third win of the tournament in Match 16 against Rajshahi Kings at Chittagong on Friday. It was some serious bowling which helped them defend the target on a batting friendly surface. Taskin Ahmed bowled beautifully and chipped five wickets to see his side wining the game by 19 runs. Taskin broke the opponent’s spine by having five key wickets to his name. It was a collective effort by the Vikings as Mohammad Nabi did well with the bat to get runs on the board after which their bowlers responded well and got wickets at regular intervals. Vikings have gained two valuable points from this win and now have four points to their name. FULL CRICKET UPDATES: Chittagong Vikings vs Rajshai Kings, BPL 2016, Match 16 at Chittagong
Rajshahi Kings had a huge target to be chased and needed a solid start from the openers. Mominul Haque looked good with the bat but floundered after getting a good start. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals, which didn’t help them achieve fruitful results. Junaid Siddique, Sabbir Rahman both got good starts but didn’t manage to convert it into big scores. They needed someone to bat through, which didn’t happen and cost them the game. Their middle-order failed to step up as Taskin Ahmed ran through them and won his side the game. Imran Khan also did a good job with the ball and chipped two wickets.
Earlier, Chittagong Vikings got off to a shaky start as they lost early wickets in the powerplay. Tamim Iqbal floundered early with the bat on five. Dwayne Smith looked good and was scoring runs at a brisk pace but was dismissed on 34 by Abul Hasan. Anamul Haque scored a much needed fifty and ensured the ship was stable after suffering early blows. His knock was important as, Vikings at one stage were falling like nine pins and needed someone to stable the ship. Grant Elliott failed to make any impact as he was done and dusted by Samit Patel. Jaharul Islam also walked away early as Patel got the better of him with a beauty. Vikings were precariously placed at 68 for the loss of four wickets when Nabi walked out to bat and from there he never looked back.
Brief scores:
Chittagong Vikings 190/5 (Anamul Haque 50, Mohammad Nabi 87*; Samit Patel 2 for 21) beat Rajshahi Kings 171/9 (Junaid Siddique 38, sabbir Rahman 46; Taskin Ahmed 5 for 31) by 19 runs.
