Doug Bracewell took career best figures of 31 for three against South Africa in the second One-Day International (ODI) to set up a thumping eight-wicket victory for New Zealand. Just about a year back, Bracewell had hit a low when he was denied a New Zealand contract because of off-field alcohol issues. Apparently Bracewell underwent a massive transformation following that snub and made his way up via good performances for New Zealand A. “He’s gone through a huge transformation on and off the field, starting with that NZA tour. He performed really well with the white ball [in England] and excelled in those conditions. He just had to bide his time and he’s trained really hard and done everything asked of him,” said Lance Hamilton to stuff.co.nz. “He’s an amazing athlete and works hard all day every day in the gym. Hopefully now he’ll get an extended run in the side through performance,” Hamilton continued. “He’s been great on and off the field and he’s got a great lady Renee, his partner, and he’s sorted himself out. I’ve got nothing but good things to say about Doug off the field,” Hamilton concluded.
