India were bowled out for only 200 in the important sixth One-Day International (ODI) against England at the WACA, Perth. India need to win this game to qualify for the final against Australia, but at the halfway stage, England look in control of the game having bowled India out for a modest total.
On a tough surface at Perth, India were put in to bat by Eoin Morgan. The wicket was a bit damp, but had that typical Perth flavour to it with bounce on offer. There was also variable bounce as some took off and others kept low. India had only one change to the side as Ishant Sharma was out injured and Mohit Sharma came in.
Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane were circumspect to begin with. Dhawan in particular was more watchful as he was under pressure coming into this game. While Rahane charged and tried to play aggressive strokes, Dhawan was more reserved and only attacked the odd opportunity. In 20 overs, the duo had put up 83 and were looking good for more when Dhawan was dismissed by Chris Woakes. Thereafter began India's slide.
Virat Kohli was promoted to No. 3 and Suresh Raina walked in at No. 4. Both fell to Moeen Ali's spin as they tried to play attacking shots. England strangled India after the 20 overs and kept that through the innings. Rahane had to go into a shell and was ultimately dismissed for 73, Ambati Rayudu also did not last long and MS Dhoni cut a lone figure later. Dhoni was also hit on the helmet by a delivery that climbed from James Anderson. Later in the over, he was dismissed leg-before with one that kept low. There was your variable bounce.
The England bowlers shared the spoils on the day. Steven Finn stood out though with his three-for 36. Mohammed Shami's spirited knock at the end helped India press towards 200. And, India got there in the 49th over.
Brief scores:
India 200 in 50 overs (Ajinkya Rahane 73, Shikhar Dhawan 38, Steven Finn 3 for 36) vs England.
