KL Rahul and Murali Vijay have started off well in India’s run-chase of 349 against Australia on Day Five of the fourth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Australia declared overnight at 251 for six and that left India with a target of 349. It is a turning wicket and India have largely been cautious but have also managed to score a few runs at a decent rate. India will have to do something like the Adelaide Test, but ensure they do not lose wickets in a heap.

Vijay has been attacking against Nathan Lyon, who is using the crumbling surface well. He has used his feet and has dispatched a few boundaries. One of them was a six over mid-wicket. Vijay had started slow, but has picked up pace nicely. Rahul on the other end has been solid and has managed a couple of boundaries. He has been stable and that has helped India get off to a nice start.

Earlier on Day One, Australia won the toss and chose to bat first on a good looking wicket. The only change in their team was Mitchell Starc replacing Mitchell Johnson. India made four changes to their team. MS Dhoni’s retirement allowed Wriddhiman Saha to don the gloves. Suresh Raina, Rohit and Bhuvneshwar Kumar came in place of Cheteshwar Pujara, Shikhar Dhawan and Ishant Sharma. Rahul managed to hold on to his spot. Australia scored 572 for two declared and in reply Virat Kohli and KL Rahul hit centuries. India scored 475. In reply, Australia declared on 251 for six, leaving India with a target of 349 on the last day.
