England have beaten India by nine wickets and have won their first game of the series in the third One-Day International (ODI) at Brisbane. England chased down a small total of 154 in 27.3 overs and in the process earn a bonus point as well. Ian Bell remained 88 not out along with James Taylor, who got his third half-century of his short career so far. Moeen Ali was the only man out for England as he went for just eight runs.

India were earlier bundled out for just 153 in 39.3 overs  and it was always going to be an uphill task to win the game from there. This is India’s lowest score against England in which they have been bowled out. India did manage an early scalp through Stuart Binny. India started the day on a bad note as an injury to star batsman Rohit Sharma, ruled him out of the game.

Rohit scored his sixth century in the previous game against Australia and was instrumental in ensuring that India reached a fighting total. In another change, Stuart Binny came into the side for R. Ashwin, giving India an extra seam bowler.  England made just one change with James Anderson taking the place of Chris Jordan, which was more or less expected. But the star as far as England were concerned was Steven Finn, who got his maiden five-wicket haul.  Anderson got four wickets and Moeen Ali too chipped in with a wicket.

India will have to address the their batting woes especially at the top of the order, with Shikhar Dhawan again falling in the very first over of the innings. Most players in the middle-order got off to starts but none of them got that big score, which could have given India a fighting chance. If either Ajinkya Rahane (33), Ambati Raydu (23), MS Dhoni (34) or Stuart Binny (44) converted their innings to a big score, India would have had a chance to get the victory. They’ll have to address this issue ahead of the next game.

Brief Scores:

India: 153 in 39.3 overs (MS Dhoni 34, Stuart Binny 44; Steven Finn 5 for 33) lost to England: 156 for 1 in 27.3 overs (Ian Bell 88*, James Taylor 56*; Stuart Binny 1 for 34) by 9 wickets.
