India will be out to continue their winning run while New Zealand will aim to bounce back after Napier drubbing as the two teams gear up for the Bay Oval showdown, scheduled to take place on Saturday in Mount Maunganui. (ALSO READ: 2nd ODI: New Zealand aim to ground high-flying India)
The Virat Kohli-led unit put in the “most balanced performance” as they went on to take 1-0 lead in the five-match series, winning the first ODI on Wednesday. While Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal starred with the ball, Shikhar Dhawan’s unbeaten 75 and Kohli’s 45 helped India seal an eight-wicket win. While there are still four matches to go in the series, Kohli, who is rested for the final two ODIs and the three-match Twenty20 series that follows, will like to push India closer to a series win as the visitors eye 2-0 lead. However, Kane Williamson-led Kiwis are no pushovers. They are the number three in the ODI rankings and will be out to level the series. Here are some of the stats to look at ahead of the 2nd ODI:
5: MS Dhoni (31) is 5 dismissals away from equalling Nayan Mongia’s record of 36 dismissals -most for a wicketkeeper – in India versus New Zealand ODIs.
8: Virat Kohli (1199 runs) needs 8 more runs to be the second highest run-getter in the India versus New Zealand ODIs. Currently, Kohli is on the third spot while Nathan Astle is on 2nd spot with 1207 runs while Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with 1750 runs.
1: If Kohli (5) scores a hundred in the second ODI, he will join Virender Sehwag (6) to become the batsman with the most number of hundreds in the India-New Zealand ODIs. Currently, Kohli is tied with Tendulkar and Astle with five hundreds.
2: If Dhoni (23) manages to hold on to two catches, he will join Brendon McCullum (25) to become the wicketkeeper with the most number of catches.
2: If Tim Southee (26) scalps 2 wickets, he will surpass Danilel Vettori and Sir Richard Hadlee (27 each) in the list of bowlers with most wickets in the India-New Zealand ODIs. The list is topped with Javagal Srinath with 51 wickets against his name. If Southee scalps a fifer, he will go past Zaheer Khan’s tally of 30 wickets.
10: Ravindra Jadeja needs 10 more runs to complete 2000 runs in ODI cricket.
1: Martin Guptill (4) is a duck away to become the joint leader of an unwarranted list of batsmen with most number of zeroes in the India versus New Zealand ODIs. The list is topped by Dilip Vengsarkar and Brendon McCullum.
