Having suffered two humiliating defeats at the start of in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 campaign, Gujarat Lions (GL) need some major rework to do. Gujarat Lions, who had finished at the top of the points table last year, have lost both games so far in IPL 10, against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 10 wickets, followed by a 9-wicket defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). On the eve of their third match against Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS), GL bowling coach Heath Streak has urged the bowlers to pull up their socks. Currently, Gujarat Lions are languishing at the bottom of the IPL 10 points table with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of -2.731.

Streak, talking to the reporters ahead of the must-win crucial tie against Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) was quoted by PTI as saying,”Definitely, we haven’t bowled well in the first two games compared to last season. We have same bowlers who had played for us last year and done well but this time our bowlers have not clicked so far.

GL missed out on the services of two key players, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo. Jadeja had missed out on the first two games due to an exhausting home Test season whereas Bravo was injured during the Big-Bash League (BBL) in December 2016.

Talking about the absence of these two players from the playing XI, Streak said, “Without Jadeja, without Bravo, the two key players for us, the two experience players’ absence has disturbed the balance of our side in last two matches.

“Now Jadeja has come back into the team and possibly Bravo would come back in a week or so, but definitely we are looking forward to do well in bowling,” Streak said.

“I think Jadeja’s absence affected in a big way in terms of the balance of our team, but now he has come into the team and we can look forward to other bowling options. Jadeja is very handy with the bat in the lower order and his presence will give us to go with an extra bowler,” said Streak.

“He [Jadeja] is a flamboyant and his presence will make a difference. He is a good batsman and batting really well, so his inclusion will give us a choice to go with other options.”

On the contrary, Streak heaped praised on foreign players like Jason Roy, Brendon McCullum, Aaron Finch and Dwayne Smith for the form they have shown in the first two games.

“All four overseas batsmen have done well for us and it’s not an easy decision to exclude anyone of the four for the inclusion of overseas bowlers.

“It’s very tough to call but many internationals players have not got a chance in the playing eleven and have to sit out in the various teams,”
