Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan was roped in by defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for an impressive price of INR 4 crores, during the IPL Auction 2017 in Bengaluru on Monday. An excellent spinner with a lethal googly, Rashid has decent batting credentials as well. Rashid has represented Afghanistan in 21 T20Is, claiming 31 wickets from 21 matches at 16.06 and an economy rate of 6.14. In all T20 he also has 47 wickets at 14.80 and an even more impressive economy of 6.03. Additionally, he also has an excellent ODI record, and can hit the ball seriously hard. He was, thus, an excellent purchase for SRH, following a tough war with two-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI). Rashid was also the second Afghan player to be bought in the IPL Auction 2017 after Mohammad Nabi, acquired by the same team. IPL Auction 2017: LIVE News and Updates from IPL 10 auction
SRH have meanwhile released Eoin Morgan, Trent Boult and a few domestic cricketers. They will be eager to fill in the void in the spin arsenal by adding the likes of Imran Tahir, Rashid Khan, Pravin Tambe and strengthen their all-rounders’ spot by placing a bet on England’s Ben Stokes during IPL Auction 2017. The tournament is still a few months away, and SRH have tried to strike out a balance in their squad by churning out a few big names while retaining the core of the side — David Warner, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mustafizur Rahman.
