After Mary Kom and Geeta Phogat, we will see the biopics on Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami. Viacom 18 have acquired the right of making a biopic on Mithali’s life, while Sony pictures will make Jhulan’s biopic. Raj and Goswami talked on the movie at the launch of Boria Majumdar’s Eleven Gods and a Billion Indians. “I think it is the biggest step for women’s cricket as two biopics in a year are coming and hopefully it will motivate girls to play sports and not only cricket but any kind of sport,” said Goswami.
Raj, on the other hand, believes the movie will motivate the younger generation and change their point of view about the sport: “I think it is important to look forward to the challenges women athletes face day to day and even in the profession. You definitely need inspiration. We have seen many biopics and taken inspiration from there. Mostly all the biopics have similar challenges but how one goes through life and accepts all that is very important for all the young people who come from rural also because they don’t get the exposure. The movies can be one of the medium to inspire them.”
Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina, also present at the event, expressed their excitement for the biopics. Bhajji also revealed that Jhulan is his favourite female cricketer: “Congratulations to both of you. We don’t know your story and it will be wonderful to know your story. It is a terrific medium to tell people that this is what we have gone through and if we can do you can do it too. I am looking forward to see Jhulan’s story. She has been my favourite for all these years. I have admired you a lot.”
