England may have been ruling the ODI rankings with a power-packed batting line up, but heading into the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, England coach Trevor Bayliss believes that tearaway pacer Jofra Archer could prove to the final piece of the jigsaw in the England squad for the marquee series. With No. 1-ranked England falling short on their bowling attack, there are high chances that Eoin Morgan and Co. might just make the cut. “We’ve pretty much had the same 15, 16 or 17 players over the last three or four years,” Bayliss told Sky Sports. “We could probably name a 15, there’s a Jofra Archer decision to be made at a later date. I think it’s getting down to that being the final piece of the jigsaw.”

England have never won a World Cup despite reaching the finals thrice. However, this time, the hosts are pitted strong favourites having won 41 of their last 54 ODIs.

Many former cricketers and ODI captain Eoin Morgan has also endorsed Archer.

“I don’t know about someone getting in the XI, but the big unknown is ‘can Jofra Archer break his way into the squad?’” Hussain told Spy Sports News. “Usually before a World Cup I would say ‘don’t make any big changes’. We’ve done that in previous World Cups and it hasn’t worked. Don’t change it unless you’re changing it for the better. Jofra Archer is a seriously talented cricketer and I say you are probably changing for the better.”

While Morgan said: “His biggest attributes are death bowling and pace. But we do have two guys who can bowl 90mph in Liam Plunkett and Mark Wood. Jofra’s young and exciting so there’s a lot of talk about him.”
