Glenn Maxwell has been going through a rough patch in limited overs cricket. The right-hander known for his aggressive stroke-play has 0, 6, 0, 0 and 3 as his scores in last 5 ODIs for Australia. The 27-year old who also didn’t have an IPL season as he would have liked for Kings XI Punjab in 2016, was although on the receiving end of a wrong umpiring decision when Australia played against South Africa in the 3rd match of the tri-series in West Indies. Nonetheless, his teammate Josh Hazlewood backed him following their loss in that match and assured that Maxwell will soon be back to his best, as he likes to face challenges. Hazlewood when asked about Maxwell’s poor form said – “He’s obviously a bit disappointed and cricket obviously has its up and downs all the time,” Hazlewood said as quoted by cricket.com.au. “I’m sure he’ll bounce back in our next game or in this tri-series. There’s going to be plenty of opportunities with a number of games coming up. With the type of player Maxi is, he loves a challenge and it’ll get the best out of him,” he assured.
While Maxwell’s batting form might be a worry for Australia and might also give other players alike Travis head, George Bailey and James Faulkner to feature in the tri-series, his part-time bowling has been good. When asked about his Maxwell’s bowling contribution, Hazlewood said – “He’s bowled quite well in these first two games on wickets that suited him.”Maxwell had taken figures of 2-15 against South Africa. “He’s a valuable member to bowl six or seven or even 10 overs if he’s on a roll. So he’s a very important member of our team,” Hazlewood added.
