And the inevitable news has arrived, which is that of the abandonment of the one-off One-Day International between Ireland and England at Malahide due to rain. It was on everyone’s minds for the last one hour or more, and it was only a matter of time before the announcement was made.

Lunch has been taken at 1.30 pm at the Malahide Oval, with the view of saving some time. In the meantime, rain continues to play spoilsport at the venue, and shows no signs of backing off!

England have clearly been on top in the match so far. A score of 56 for four after 18 overs does not appear very promising for the home side. With four key batsmen back in the pavilion, it now depends on the likes of Gary Wilson and Kevin O’Brien, both of whom were effective with the bat in the recent World Cup. Let’s hope the match doesn’t get washed out, even though the downpour is heavy enough for fans to fast lose hope.
