England look down and out after losing four early wickets for just 91 runs before a hundred run stand by Joe Root and Ben Stokes resurrected their innings. Earlier in the day South African tail-enders frustrated England bowlers as they went on to make 313. England at stumps were survived by Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow trailing South Africa by 75 more runs at 238/5. LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 77/3 in 22.4 overs; BATTING: Joe Root 7(13), James Taylor 2(5): ENGLAND WIN BY 7 WICKETS! South Africa got three back to back wickets but they were of no use as a boundary from Joe Root took the England to an easy victory. The game changer for England was Stuart Broad who took 6 for 17 in the second innings and made things easier for the batsmen. The bowler removed all the important wickets and South Africa continue to disappoint. England, with the win, seal the series 2-0, with a draw in the second match. OUT! LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 43/0 in 15 overs; BATTING: Alastair Cook 27(48), Alex Hales 9(41): Four byes! Serious pace from Viljoen, who sends the ball down towards Cook’s leg-side for the ball to fly towards the long-leg boundary. FOUR! Hammered by Cook through cover off Viljoen. The duo should be able to chase the target down in no time at all!

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 29/0 in 10 overs; BATTING: Alastair Cook 22(29), Alex Hales 5(31): FOUR! Cook paddles a full-length ball from Viljoen towards the square-leg boundary for the bowler to concede his first runs of the innings. England are currently easing their way towards the target.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 16/0 in 5 overs; BATTING: Alastair Cook 11(19), Alex Hales 5(11): The England openers walk out to bat for what should be a cakewalk of a task for them. FOUR! Hales gets the first runs on the board with a cover drive through the covers! Cook gets off the mark also with a boundary, as the duo signal their intent to chase the total down by the end of the day!

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 83 in 33.1 overs; BATTING: Morne Morkel 4(15): OUT! And Stuart Broad does it once again. A brilliant delivery followed by a superb catch, Broad shows his class with his spell here. With du Plessis dismissed, South Africa’s innings end with their lead of 73 runs. Broad ended with 6 wickets for 17 runs. A really disappointing performance by the Proteas as none of the batsmen went passed 20 in this innings, putting up the second lowest total since their readmission by South Africa at the Wanderers. LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 78/9 in 32 overs; BATTING Faf du Plessis 14(39), Morne Morkel 0(4): OUT! Fantastic delivery from Anderson that raps Viljoen on the front pad after straightening, and would have gone to hit the middle stump! South Africa lose their penultimate wicket with 77 on board. OUT! The umpire raises his finger, adjudging him out for caught behind! Faf takes the review, and it appears that the batsman hit his pad with the bat. Can the Proteas go past 79, which is currently their lowest Test total since readmission! OUT! Hardus Viljoen lbw James Anderson 6(15)

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 71/8 in 29 overs; BATTING Faf du Plessis 12(34), Hardus Viljoen 1(6): What a session that was for England! Stuart Broad demonstrated an invincible spell bagging five wickets, leaving South Africa in a miserable position. South Africa’s lowest total at Wanderers was 72 and it was against against England. They faced a huge blow when skipper AB de Villiers was dismissed for a duck. Temba Bavuma was the second batsman to get out without scoring a run.

This, after a couple of equally good shots that fetched him three runs each. OUT! Rabada’s brief resistance comes to an end as he edges a delivery outside off to the wicketkeeper off Stokes’ bowling! LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 55/7 in 25 overs; BATTING Faf du Plessis 8(24), Kagiso Rabada 7(12): FOUR! Vilas is playing some superb strokes at the moment, this time timing his cover drive perfectly off a full delivery outside off from Stokes! OUT! Mindblowing catch taken by Taylor at short-leg to dismiss Dane Vilas for 8! Vilas looks to guide it towards square-leg, but Taylor moves to his right in a fraction of a second to complete the catch! South Africa lose their sixth wicket with just 45 on board! All eyes on Faf now! BOWLED HIM! Looks like South Africa are doing exactly what Australia did at Trent Bridge last summer — fall like a house of cards! Morris departs this time, missing the line of the inswinging yorker completely that ultimately crashes into the batsman’s off-stump! South Africa lose their seventh now with just 46 on board, and a score of 100 looks like a Herculean prospect for them! FOUR! Rabada brings up the 50 for SA with a boundary towards third man! OUT! LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 40/5 in 20 overs; BATTING Faf du Plessis 5(18), Dane Vilas 4(6): FOUR! Du Plessis finally gets off the mark with a hook to send the ball scurrying towards the fine-leg boundary! OUT! Fifth for Broad, as Bavuma plays on to his stumps while appearing to avoid a bouncer (by his height). The ball deflects from his bat and rattles the stumps, as South Africa lose their fifth wicket with just 35 on board! An easy win looks likely for England from this point onwards. FOUR! Beautiful straight drive by Vilas off Stokes to get off the mark, giving the local fans some reason to cheer! OUT! Temba Bavuma b Stuart Broad 0(8)

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 31/4 in 16 overs; BATTING Faf du Plessis 0(5), Temba Bavuma 0(3): OUT! Broad gets rid of the second South African opener, with van Zyl edging the slightly short of length delivery just outside off to Stokes in the slips. South Africa are off to a disastrous start now, losing both their openers to Broad without adding much to their total. Broad is on fire at the moment, and bowling an impeccable spell! Meanwhile, Broad goes past Bob Willis to become the third-highest wicket-taker for England, with the dismissal of Stiaan being his 326th! OUT! Massive blow for South Africa as skipper AB de Villiers departs for a duck! Superb delivery from Broad, and AB gets a faint inside edge while looking to defend the ball. England are in firm control of the proceedings right now! OUT! What a spell by Broad, as he gets his fourth wicket in no time at all! Amla plays towards the leg side off a flick, with the ball landing straight in James Taylor’s palm at short-leg! The hosts are in dire straits at the moment, as Broad has successfully managed to run through the South Africa top-order with a dream spell! OUT! LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 25/1 in 10 overs; BATTING Stiaan van Zyl 10(28), Hashim Amla 0(7): OUT! England draw first blood in the game, as Elgar edges to wicketkeeper Bairstow off a bouncer that angles into the batsman. Elgar lasts for only 25 balls, getting out for 15, as South Africa lose their first wicket with 23 on board. Meanwhile, Hashim Amla walks out to bat to a huge cheer from the Wanderers crowd. DROPPED! Van Zyl gets a leading edge off a Broad delivery, and the ball flies to Anderson in the slips where Anderson is unable to hold on to the catch despite leaping to his left. LIVE CRICKET SCORE: South Africa 16/0 in 5 overs; Lead 6 runs; BATTING Stiaan van Zyl 6(12), Dean Elgar 10(18): South Africa take lunch after batting for 5 overs. They lead by 6 runs as Stuart Broad and James Anderson looked good with the new ball. Anderson who bolwed three overs, already has a maiden to his name. FOUR! Bairstow is in spanking form at the moment, as he despatches the third ball of the 71st over towards point! OUT! Brilliant delivery from Rabada as he gets his fourth wicket! Full delivery pitched between off and middle, and Broad misses the delivery completely to get his off-stump rattled! OUT! Another wicket for the South Africans, as Finn gets a bit of glove while fending a short delivery angling into the batsman! Morkel gets his third wicket of the innings, as Finn departs for a duck. Just one wicket left for the Proteas now, with James Anderson coming out to bat! FOUR! Bairstow helps England gain first innings lead with a boundary off a Rabada bouncer towards long-leg! OUT! LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 297/7 in 70 overs; BATTING Jonny Bairstow 26(63), Stuart Broad 10(21): FOUR! Ali is lighting the scene up with his third boundary of the innings, pushing a short of length delivery outside off through cover. OUT! Superb catch taken by Vilas, who dives to his right, after Moeen gets an inside edge off a rising delivery angling into the batsman. MOrris gets his first wicket as a result, as Broad walks out to bat. Meanwhile, Bairstow is batting in the 20s at the moment, and will be key for them to gain a first innings lead. OUT! LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 268/6 in 62 overs; BATTING Jonny Bairstow 14(44), Moeen Ali 14(20): OUT! South Africa have done what they needed to do if they are to prevent England from getting away with a first innings lead — GET RID OF JOE ROOT! The No. 4 batsman gets a thick inside edge off a seaming delivery from Rabada, with Dane Vilas diving to his left to complete the catch. The batsman goes for the review, and fails to save himself with it as Rabada takes his third wicket of the innings. OUT! Joe Root c Dane Vilas b Kagiso Rabada 110 (139)

England lost the  early wickets in their innings as openers Alex Hales (1) and Alastair Cook (18), were dismissed off the bowling of Kagiso Rabada and Hardus Viljoen, Viljoen also took his first-ever international wicket off his very first ball. Nick Compton made 26 runs as fell to Rabada, next to go was James Taylor who got an inside edge off a Morne Morkel that deflected towards short-leg, where Temba Bavuma took leaping catch. Root and Stokes then came into their own to muster England to a safe score of 238, thanks to their 111 run stand. Stokes just needed 35 balls to get to his half-century as crisis man Root went on to make his ninth Test hundred.

South Africa were bowled out for a score of 313 after resuming from their overnight score of 267 for seven. Kagiso Rabada and Chris Morris, which was crossed the 50-run before Morris fell to Stuart Broad. Some tough resistance from Morne Morkel and Hardus Viljoen managed to partner 32 runs.
