Former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardena makes a sarcastic comment, on Twitter, on cricket stadiums not covering the entire ground during the rain. The ongoing first Test between South Africa and New Zealand at Kingsmead has been interrupted by rain. Well, it is not the only match that barred us from enjoying some dose of cricket. The fourth and final match between India and West Indies at Port of Spain has witnessed only 22 overs of cricket in three days. However, more than the rain, the ground conditions have been making headlines. Despite it being Sunny on Day Three, the outfield appeared outrageously wet. The groundsmen had to dig few part of the ground to take the moisture off it. To add to the misery, the umpires were disappointed with the super sopper as well.

On the other hand, the second 50-over contest between Pakistan and Ireland was abandoned due to rain, without a ball bowled. As it rained throughout the day, the match didn’t face any ground issues. Pakistan won the two-match series 1-0. Also read – SA vs NZ, Day 3: Wet outfield nulls proceedings at Kingsmead

The third day of the South Africa-New Zealand Test as well was called off without a ball bowled. Considering that Test cricket has been going out of sync with shorter formats, it’s imperative that such issues won’t get repeated in the future.
