Meg Lanning (Australia Women’s cricket captain) thinks that women’s cricket has come a long way and it is one of those times in cricket history where it is getting its due recognition. Lanning who is fresh after the recent win over arch-rivals England in Women’s Ashes 2015 said that it was nice to witness the tremendous crowd support that both the teams received during the tournament. It needs to be mentioned here that a record number of spectators watched the recent series esp. the three ODIs. Lanning thinks that the crowds were awesome during Ashes. She believes that the cricket boards of all nations should take more interest in women’s cricket to help it grow. READ: Meg Lanning meets Australia PM Malcolm Turnbull

In a conversation with cricket.com.au she said, “I think it shows just how far not just women’s cricket has come but women’s sport as well in the past couple of years. It’s great that there’s been a lot of success in women’s sport and I’m glad we were able to continue that on in England. So it’s great to get that recognition for women’s sport and see where it stands now. The media interest over in England was certainly another level up from what we’ve had before. With all the games televised live, that was certainly great for the game and it was advertised it really well. And the crowds we got were amazing as well. Two of the T20s were sold out and even the double header [played alongside the men’s T20 in Cardiff] had a fairly big crowd there for our game. England have done a great job and it’s certainly happening back here [in Australia] as well. It’s great to see so much interest from the media and the public as well so hopefully that only grows with the Women’s Big Bash coming up soon.” READ: Women Ashes 2015: It’s nice to get our hands back on those Ashes, says Meg Lanning
