Liam Livingstone, Babar Azam and Mohammad Amir starred as Karachi Kings kicked off their Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2019 campaign with a win, beating Multan Sultans at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Friday.

Karachi Kings had a middle-order stutter with Colin Ingram, Imad Wasim and Sikandar Raza contributing with only 9 runs. But Livingstone and Azam s record PSL stand for the opening wicket of 157 runs powered Karachi Kings to 183 after electing to bat. Livingstone, making his PSL debut, clearly displayed no signs of nerves and scored a quickfire 82 off 43 balls, with Azam doing his bit, churning out 77 off 59 balls. Although the Imad Wasim-led side could not end their innings with a flourish despite a solid foundation, they still managed to put up a formidable total on board. While the other Multan Sultans bowlers struggled to withstand Livingstone-Azam onslaught, Chris Green returned with impressive figures of 3/32.

The Multan Sultan chase did not begin on a bright note as the openers Shan Masood (20) and Tom Moores (1) got out cheaply. However, Laurie Evans (49 off 39 balls) and Shoaib Malik (52 off 28 balls) offered the team some hope with a 72-run stand. Skipper Imad, Amir and Usman Shinwari were pick of the bowlers for Karachi Kings. While Imad could not scalp a wicket, his tight bowling kept Multan Sultans in check. Amir, meanwhile, scalped four wickets, including those of big hitting all-rounders Andre Russell and Shahid Afridi, conceding only 26 runs from his four-over spell. Shinwari got the important wicket of Malik as Karachi Kings restricted Multan Sultans for 176.

Livingstone won the Man of the Match award on his PSL debut as Karachi Kings sealed a seven-run win.
