Pat Cummings made his international debut against South Africa nearly 5 years ago where he claimed seven wickets including his career best figures of 6 for 79. Since then the bowler has had an injury plagues career and has been on and off the team and is yet to play any other Test since then. The 23 years old played for Australia in September of 2015 in a one-day match against England but then suffered a lower lumbar bone stress fracture. Since then he was expected to make his long-awaited return during the ongoing Australia A winter series in Queensland but selectors decided against it, preferring Cummins take longer in his recovery. But recently the paceman has declared himself fit and has called himself ‘‘well prepared” for the upcoming Australian season in a bid to make his international comeback. “It was unfortunate to miss Australia A but a chance to have a bit more of a pre-season and a bit more control and a slower build up towards the Matador Cup,” Cummins was quoted as saying on the Cricket NSW website on Wednesday (August 10). “I know that when I do play Matador I’ve tried everything and done everything in the nets and training that I wanted to, to get ready for games and I’m not rushing back. Cummins has described his rehabilitation ‘lonely’ and was also quick to point out that the Australian Cricket staff had a cautious approach towards him which might have delayed his comeback despite the bowler resuming to his bowling in February.
