Assam capped off a brilliant day, courtesy fast bowlers Arup Das and Mukhtar Hussain, who shared nine wickets between them to bowl out Tripura for 136 , as the visitors grabbed a crucial 193-run lead in an Elite Group C Round 2 match of the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season at the MBB Stadium in Agartala on Tuesday.
Resuming at their overnight score of 268/4, Parvez Aziz added eight runs to his tally and departed for a fine 88 after he was caught by Bravish Shetty off Harmeet Singh. Riyan Parag was cleaned up for 40 by Abhijit Sarkar. Captain Amit Sinha added 59, and with not much contributions from the lower middle-order, Assam were bowled out for 327. Sarkar returned with figures of five for 107 in his 26.4 overs, the pick of the bowlers.
In reply, Das decimated the Tripura top order. He first cleaned up last match’s centurion Udiyan Bose for four and two overs later, had Smit Patel out for a four-ball duck. In his next spell, Das trapped Bishal Ghosh, who scored a brilliant 201 against Services in Round 1, trapped lbw for just 15.
Tripura were reeling at 34/3 and slipped to 104/6, with Hussain and Ranjeet Mali claiming the wickets of Shetty (0) and Ninad Kadam (28) respectively. Hussain added on to his tally after he castled Pratyush Singh for 47. Manisankar Murasingh (10) and Harmeet Singh (13) fell to Hussain, while Das picked up his fifth wicket in Rana Datta (8) to cap off a stunning pace-bowling performance. In their second dig, Assam were 5/0.
Brief scores: Assam 327 & 5/0 lead Tripura 139 (Arup Das 5/42, Mukhtar Hussain 4/43) by 193 runs
