Playing in his first match this season, Mumbai left-arm pacer Royston Dias snapped three wickets to leave Gujarat at 232/8 – on the verge of conceding a first-innings lead – on day two of their Ranji Trophy 2018-19 Elite A Round 4 match at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

Mumbai were bowled out for 297 after allrounder Shivam Dubey rescued his side from a precarious 74/7. In reply, Gujarat were off to steady start with openers Priyank Panchal and debutant Kathan Patel sharing 49 runs before captain Panchal edged it behind to be dismissed for 31 to hand Dias his first wicket.

Mumbai captain Dhawal Kulkarni got into the act and sent Patel, who ended his debut innings for 28. Bhargav Merai, who was unbeaten on 102 in Gujarat’s previous match against Saurashtra, this time was cleaned up for just four by Dubey as Gujarat slipped to 64/3 in 23 overs.

Manprit Juneja and Rujul Bhatt then steadied the innings with a 64-run stand for the fourth wicket. However, the duo failed to capitalise on their stand after Dubey returned to dismiss Juneja for 37. Jay Bista then sent Bhatt, who was caught by Armaan Jaffer, for 41.

Roosh Kalaria then joined Dhruv Raval in the middle as the duo engaged in a reargued 56-run partnership for the sixth wicket to take Gujarat to 208/6 when Dias returned to dismiss Kalaria for 23.

Two overs later, Dias saw the back of Piyush Chawla (1), while Kulkarni snapped the wicket of Chintan Gaja to leave Raval as Gujarat ended the day at 232/8 with Raval unbeaten on 60.

For Mumbai, Dias was the pick of the bowlers with three for 52 in his 18 overs. Dubey and Kulkarni snapped two wickets each.
