Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Elite C, Round 3, Day 2: Ahmad Banday, Irfan Pathan help J&K to huge lead over Tripura

A hundred from the opener Ahmad Omar Banday, 85 to player-cum-mentor Irfan Pathan and some tail-end resistance formed the foundation for hosts Jammu & Kashmir to all but shut out Tripura from their Elite Group C round three match in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy in Srinagar on Wednesday.

From an overnight 54/1, J&K moved to 442 with Banday – who had retired hurt at 26 on day one – scoring his second first-class hundred and the eighth-wicket pair of Aamir Aziz and Waseem Raza putting on 80. This helped J&K to 442, a lead of 318, and by stumps Tripura were 11/0 to trail by 307 runs.

Ian Dev Singh Chauhan was dismissed for no addition to his 27 but Banday’s return to the crease saw a partnership of 86 flourish with Irfan, whose 85 needed 113 balls and showcased 10 fours and two sixes. A collapse of four wickets for 69 runs ensued as Harmeet Singh struck with his medium-pace, but the eighth-wicket pair of Aziz (48) and Raza (45) frustrated Tripura and pushed the lead past 300.

Harmeet claimed Raza for his fifth wicket as the innings ended on 442 in 121 overs.
