Mukhtar Hussain (3/40) and Arup Das (2/51) had reduced Goa to 78/6 before Amit Verma and Lakshay Garg struck unbeaten half-centuries to bring their team back in the hunt.

Das had struck in the first over Goa’s second innings when he had opener Sumiran Kumar lbw for a two-ball duck. Captain Sagun Kamat decided to counter-attack after the early jolt, hitting four fours to reach 21 before being caught off Ranji Mali.

Soon they had lost half their side with the scorecard reading 50 and when Darshan Misal became Hussain’s third victim, handing keeper Wasiqur Rahman his third catch of the innings, Goa were tottering, staring at a certain defeat.
Amit kept his end safe while witnessing the innings crumble at the other. He then found an able partner in Laskhay and together they guided their team out of the hole.

While Amit struck a measured 62 off 99, Lakshay was more adventurous, hitting seven fours and two sixes in his 62-ball 57.

The duo has so far added 88 runs for the seventh wicket and Goa need just 52 more to win on the final day.

Earlier, Assam were bowled out for 235 in their second innings after resuming the day on 119/4. Opener Rishav Das top-scored with 67 while captain Amit Sinha also scored fifty, hitting a patient 52 off 124. For the visitors, Krishna Das was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/69.
