In a dramatic Plate group Round 6 opening day of the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season, it was Puducherry, who had the last laugh, walking away with a lead of 82 in their second dig against Arunachal Pradesh at the DN Singha Stadium, Goalpara on Friday.
Put into bat, third-placed Puducherry, sans the experienced Abhishek Nayar, were skittled out for 136 with Fabid Ahmed left unbeaten on 41. Deendyal was the pick of the bowlers for Arunachal, occupying the penultimate position in the nine-team group, with four for 36 in his 10.3 overs. Offspinner Techi Neri snapped three wickets in his nine overs going for 28 runs.

In reply, Fabid Ahmed scripted an allround performance to bag a maiden six-wicket haul as Arunachal Pradesh were skittled out for 82. As many as seven batsmen registered single-digit scores with Nipun Malhotra top scoring with just 19. Experienced pacer Pankaj Singh added three wickets in his 12 overs going for 20 runs.

In their second essay, Puducherry were 28 for two with Deendyal accounting for both the openers – M Viknesh and Thalaivan Sargunam – inside 12 overs. At the close of play, Saju Chotan and Santosh Kumaran were batting on 7 and 2 respectively.
